Looks like my ghost peppers are starting to flower by belgianwafflestompin spicy

[–]phiIIips 2 points3 points ago

My simple understanding is that plucking the early blooms really doesn't impact production (especially as the ghost pepper takes forever to fruit compared to most other peppers). You're plucking blooms that may or may not ever become fruit, diverting the plants energy toward producing a strong stalk and branch structure. This way the plant is more wind proof and can carry a heavier load of fruit. Basically you're investing in a better plant. Someone can supplement/correct me if I am mistaken.

I've been plucking my blooms to encourage vegetative growth, on the advice of fellow pepper growers. Every pluck hurts, but they're about knee high. :)

r/gamecollecting is really starting to get under my skin these days. by theoneandonlypeterin gamecollecting

I've noticed a recent pattern of posts discussing the various facets of collecting (display, tactics, things like music and console preferences, etc) getting downvoted or ignored and posts about arbitrary finds getting wild attention. It's just what this community seems to be moving towards. I check things here when I want to see cool finds, but I have started keeping my discussion of the hobby itself to vgcollect.com.

Newbie question about Bentonite by abenfVAin mead

[–]phiIIips 2 points3 points ago

I have it, but I don't use it. Sparkolloid is cheap, much quicker, and works better in my experience. I got a gallon freezer bag of it and in 100 or so gallons of wines I have barely made a dent.

Of course purists will say to just wait it out. And there's no harm in that. We'd all be brewing beer if we wanted something quickly consumable. Meads and wines are the nectar of the patient. Or the forgetful.

Nothing special but for $2.02 I couldn't just leave it behind. by sirfudgin gamecollecting

Where I live you could drive that over to GameXchange and get $12 store credit for it.

The famicom cart is just a weird pirated game. The adapter allows famicom games to play in the NES.

Prices are all over the map, from 30 to 90. But this is a sports game so I figure I'm on the low side of that. Also I'm on reddit so I am more flexible here than ebay.

Tldr; I'm open to offers.

Best piece of casual advice someone ever gave you about wine by MatrekJuicein wine

I'm not in the industry. I've participated in two dozen or so tastings in various places around the US. Most of the time I am encouraged to shake out my glass and move on.

Why is this the only time I've seen this in probably two dozen tastings? Not being combative, just curious. I like the idea but I have only seen it the once.

In a tasting room in Santa Maria, our hostess rinsed our glasses with about a teaspoon's worth of the next wine on the list. She explained that rinsing this way, rather than with water, keeps the glass free from esters, minerals, etc that may alter the flavor of the wines. I had never heard of this before nor have I seen it since, but it makes sense.

Selling the unsellable (or) Why does eBay remove multi-cart listings for consoles several generations past? by phiIIipsin gamecollecting

I didn't realize reproductions were outlawed as well. That makes more sense, I guess.

The policy isn't just against pirated, copyright infringing games. It's against ALL multi-game carts. I guess my phrase of "pirate" was a bit broad. My cartridge is a Japanese unauthorized cart, often referred to as pirated but not necessarily an illegitimate copy of a copyrighted game.

[–]phiIIips[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ok, so one more follow-up since I like your "eBay Spokesperson" style. :D

The policy is against "unauthorized multi-game video games". So what makes Action 52, Caltron 6-in-1, etc not subject to the same policy?

I get this. But, let me play Game Enthusiast Devil's Advocate then, and ask why not have a "no multi-game discs/memory cards" policy and allow the cart-based systems to go free?

It's an 11-in-1 famicom cart with a NES adapter. Pretty weird thing to find in Oklahoma. I have a post on /r/retrogameswap with info. I just can't figure why eBay won't let me post it, and I haven't had luck unloading it in the usual places.

Ah. For this, I usually whip some air in with a wire whip rather than going through the racking process. To each their own!
