If you were put in charge of trimming Earth's human population down to 3 billion or so, what would your criteria be for who stays and who goes? by Clayburnin AskReddit

[–]peterfalls 0 points1 point ago

I'd administer a survey asking this question to everyone. Using these, I would calculate the average proposed population reduction, and eliminate the portions of the population who submitted plans to reduce the population by more than the global average.

The idea is to select against people who most readily discard other humans.

73% of Millennials agree "the economic system in this country unfairly favors the wealthy", 72% favor increasing the tax rate on Americans earning more than $1 million a year by kansasalpsin politics

I'm no economist, though I dismiss out of hand any suggestion that the choice in '08 was between a continuing recession (Obama) and sudden, inexplicable economic turnaround (which you seem ready to imply would have come from a GOP win). I don't know if I'm better off economically, though I can be damn sure that McCain Palin's fundamentalist Xtian platform would have had more negative impacts on my life and the lives of my loved ones than Obama's centrist apathy.

Seriously, how can you stand up for the economic policies of a party that is so inexcusably regressive on social issues?

Non-Americans who have visited the US: What surprised you the most about the US, and what surprised you the least? by jumbletonin AskReddit

Regarding guns in Walmart, if the local governments have the appropriate laws in place, or if they piss and moan enough, they can stop this from happening. The only Walmart inside the Atlanta city limits, for instance, cannot or does not sell guns.

On the flip side, I think Walmarts tend to pop up in areas where local government would sooner enshrine gay marriage into law than restrict access to guns, so most Walmarts wind up selling guns.

Twenty-two movie characters casually dismissed in sequels by Shadow_Jackin movies

[–]peterfalls 3 points4 points ago

They forgot Tremors, Tremors 2, and the rest.

Tremors had Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntyre, whose characters are written out of Tremors 2 which stars Fred Ward and the crazy gun fanatic from the first movie. Tremors 3 and 4 are just the gun guy, and just about every ancillary character from the first movie.

African American Doctor Depicted as Gorilla at UCLA Event. Injustice and Racism continue... by kuruptmixerin videos

[–]peterfalls 7 points8 points ago

The way he describes it at 1:07, it sounds like the residents have a roast of the attending physicians each year. Assuming that he might be the brunt of his fair share of jokes, he was surprised to find that 20 consecutive slides had been devoted to him, including one depicting him as a smiling gorilla being sodomized by his boss.

Even if it had been a roast of Dr. Head alone, as opposed to a collective roast that unfairly targeted him, would the gorilla image be acceptable roast material?

Are there any non-religious arguments against banning same-sex marriage? by PepSupChOthin AskReddit

[–]peterfalls 1 point2 points ago

Looks like DarthContinent got it right, though it's not the best posed question I've ever read. As far as I know, nearly all of the arguments against banning same sex marriages are non-religious, so asking if anyone knows of one warrants a reaction akin to the face you would give a child asking for a colored sphere in a ball pit.

Video Shows Black Teen Brutally Beaten by NYPD Officers Was Not Holding Drugs, Did Not Punch Officer by mattredditin politics

[–]peterfalls 1 point2 points ago

I very much agree with your sentiment. However, if there are already rampant cover-ups, I'm not sure how raising the negative consequences of these offenses can lead anywhere but to more incentive to cover-up. I feel like it would be better to aim for equality under existing laws (or even subtle lenience for cops who break the law and own up to it), while the penalty for a police cover up should be fucking life in prison.

Reddit, my GF has a mustache and some beard hairs. How do I ask her nicely to shave it off? by moustachegirlin AskReddit

[–]peterfalls 0 points1 point ago

I hope I'm not too late.

Don't mention it to her. She definitely knows about it, and I don't think mentioning it could do any good.

What's the scenario here? You've noticed over the course of a few days/weeks the presence of the hairs? She knows the hair is there and chose not to act, in which case you shouldn't ask her to shave. If its make or break for you, I think you're already done with her. "Yo baby, I want to love you but this 'stache is putting me off." No guarantees, but you'll probably come off like a dick.

If the scenario is something more like "She knows about the hair but missed her twice weekly shave" then you should still not mention it because, well, nobody likes to hear "You've missed a spot" unless the razor/tweezer is still in their hand.

Just saw the most epic thing happen. What's the greatest random occurrence you've ever seen in person? by AeroZepin AskReddit

I was unhappy to be behind two open-top dump tricks at a traffic light. Hanging over the intersection was a heavy branch stuck on a utility wire. I noticed when the first truck hit it and set it swinging, and I outright cheered when the second truck caught the branch mid-swing and it fell into the truck bed.

Why didn't Ron Paul vote against CISPA? by ostrakonin politics

[–]peterfalls 0 points1 point ago

The moved the vote forward by a day. I don't know what mechanisms exist for voting in absentia, but its not like he missed a vote that occurred on the day it was originally going to occur.

Though it would have been nice if, mid campaign stop, RP heard of the suddenly advanced CISPA vote and ran out of the room back to Washington.

This bill passed by a fairly wide margin. Most pols probably knew the rough outcome in advance, and for all the points rushing back to DC to vote against might have scored Ron Paul, isn't it possible that doing so would have been an immense waste of his time and money?
