Success with linux depends on what you want to do with your computer. If you only use it for browsing, text editing and media (music/videos), xubuntu is an excellent alternative.

A few years back some chick from the bank called my work number to offer a credit card. Having better things to do and not the least bit interested in accumulating debt, I politely declined, hung up and forgot about it. Next day same time I get a call and it's her.
