What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

Don't come to Germany, crowds of us seem to be unable to do anything BUT this whenever any sort of music starts playing.

[–]pdowling 5 points6 points ago

That has nothing to do with the fingerprint reader. That thing helps hold the case in place I think. I have a W520 WITH Fingerprint reader, and this thing is also on it. The reader is located around an inch to the right of that

Why is Estimating so Hard? by vegittoss15in programming

i had nearly the same code and did it in Python, also taking only around 3 minutes - but I will admit that it would take me a little longer in, say, C or Java

my computer f'hldd hntdgshtx tdst by maniacnfin hardware

[–]pdowling 133 points134 points ago*

I've seen a post about this somewhere on here before, and it turned out to be a bad contact on some interface, bascially messing up one (or two?) bits, leading to different letters being displayed.

More specifically, the least significant bit seems broken: "e" is turned into "d" (e = 1100101 -> d = 1100100) and "i" is turned into "h" (1101001 -> 1101000). Although I have no idea how to fix this, to be honest. I wouldn't think it's the RAM though, as you suggested. edit: nevermind, it probably is the memory, as it seems only every other letter gets messed up, which makes sense seeing as you probably aren't on an 8-bit architecture. I would guess the BUS that connects the memory to the rest of the computer has a bad contact on it

Why cant we have simplified graphics in Python For Android? Just like Python For Symbian has. Just one window and various squiggles on it. You dont need fancy stuff on a phone. by kalavalein Python

Check out Kivy and Pygame subset for Android, that's probably what youre looking for. Both also let you package python code as .apk apps

How was it successful? I mean, you already got head from her and that's cool, but this is isn't texting "game", in fact you'd be in pretty much the same situation without this exchange ever having happened from what I can see...

Why do we need "? extends" in Java by EngFouadin programming

[–]pdowling 2 points3 points ago

More about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covariance_and_contravariance_%28computer_science%29

We actually learned about this stuff in our first CS course at uni, it basically allows you to accept objects that are subclasses of whatever class/type follows. So <? extends Number> would accept integers or floats, or anything else that extands Number. On the other hand, <? super Integer> does that opposite and would accept, for instance, Number.

Does this work? (bowtie) by bandaidboy12in malefashionadvice

See, this is what's wrong with this subreddit. "No" is not a useful answer in any way, all you've done is make yourself look like a pretentious fashion snob and possibly make the OP feel bad about posting. I'd definitely be discouraged from posting here again if this was the top comment. Sure, if it doesn't work, say so, but elaborate and actually add some content to the discussion or just shut up all together. I'm not even saying you're wrong, it's just that your input was 100% worthless.

IWTL how to write code. by vSmurfyin IWantToLearn

[–]pdowling 12 points13 points ago

Yeah, well don't even think about it like that though. Programming and hacking are NOTHING like they are portrayed in the movies, starting with the fact that it's a much much slower process. Not to discourage you, but don't expect to be hacking into anyone's computer anytime soon, at least not on your own achievement.

IWTL how to write code. by vSmurfyin IWantToLearn

[–]pdowling 11 points12 points ago

You don't start coding to become a Hacker, at least I'm pretty sure you'll fail if that's specifically your goal. However, you should just give it a try to learn programming and see how far that gets you. It will be frustrating at times, but it's really a lot of fun and opens up a large range of possibilities. As a start, I would recommend learning Python using this course: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-fall-2008/

And learning this will at times be confusing, there's no way around it. Of course some sites will be better than others, but coding IS hard.

They'd rather die than have sex with me? by hopeful_virginin relationship_advice

[–]pdowling 0 points1 point ago

That's bullshit dude, stop hanging out with them. And don't take it seriously, it was peer pressure and nothing else, seriously don't worry about it.

Now, the fact that you got into a situation like this suggests that you might want to consider changing your habits a bit. I don't mean changing to fit in, I'm talking more in the sense of "revenge by living well". Try and be more confident and social, learn how to influence people rather than being bullied around by "alphas". Definitely check out this subreddit and consider working on some of that stuff.

First and foremost though, fuck those people. They aren't worth shit if they treat someone like that. You're not the problem, nothing is wrong with you, they're just assholes. Find better people to hang out with. Next time someone pulls shit like that, stand up for yourself and tell him he's a fucking asshole. You're in control.

Looks interesting, the script he posted seems to have a list of addresses hardcoded into it. Why is that? Is it possible to get a map of the whole network from any arbitrary machine?
