They'd rather die than have sex with me? by hopeful_virginin relationship_advice

[–]pdowling 0 points1 point ago

That's bullshit dude, stop hanging out with them. And don't take it seriously, it was peer pressure and nothing else, seriously don't worry about it.

Now, the fact that you got into a situation like this suggests that you might want to consider changing your habits a bit. I don't mean changing to fit in, I'm talking more in the sense of "revenge by living well". Try and be more confident and social, learn how to influence people rather than being bullied around by "alphas". Definitely check out this subreddit and consider working on some of that stuff.

First and foremost though, fuck those people. They aren't worth shit if they treat someone like that. You're not the problem, nothing is wrong with you, they're just assholes. Find better people to hang out with. Next time someone pulls shit like that, stand up for yourself and tell him he's a fucking asshole. You're in control.

Looks interesting, the script he posted seems to have a list of addresses hardcoded into it. Why is that? Is it possible to get a map of the whole network from any arbitrary machine?

What's a good project to learn about C++ network programming (sockets, tcp, udp, etc.)? by pdowlingin learnprogramming

[–]pdowling[S] 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I haven't actually done sockets in C. In general, i haven't really done any network coding, but I figured I'd use the opportunity to learn some C++ as well.

I did this once and I just iterated over a list of 1s and 0s.. but then again my code was sort of terrible. Anyway, I think OOP might be overkill for this, since all you need is a true and false attribute and a neighbour count, which you can just calculate for each cell iteratively. I'd be interested to see how some of the proper (hashlife, etc) implementations work.

Your favorite sentence in any book, ever? by MrUmbrellaPantsin books

[–]pdowling 0 points1 point ago

"We are four billion years in the past, please don't ask me why it is that the phone works when we are anywhere in the universe other than where it's actually connected, that's a matter you'll have to take up with the British Telecom." Douglas Adams, Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency

From the same book, but technically not one sentence: "In the end, I asked a child. I told him the story of the trick and asked him how he thought it had been done, and he said ' it's bleedin' obvious, innit, he must've 'ad a bleedin' time machine ' I thanked the little fellow and gave him a shilling for his trouble. He kicked me rather sharply on the shin and continued about his business. "

Huge fan, thanks so much for doing this. You have a few songs that seem to focus much more on telling a story or describing than most of your work (no regrets, 6B panorama), most of your songs are so cryptic people can hardly follow them on listening to them for the first time. Is this something you do on purpose, do you prefer something about one style to the other? Do you consciously differentiate between styles you have or is it all just stuff you happen to have come up with?

Also, is there any chance to see you around Germany within say the next year or two?
