I'd really love to see a optware package for dd-wrt. The list of dependencies however makes me doubt the possibility of this happening in the near future.
Non US Redditors: What are some weird things that us Americans do? by joeyda3rdin AskReddit

Urban sprawl coupled with a lack of decent public transport. I'm constantly amazed at how commonplace drink driving is here compared to the "high" levels of occurrence at home. Context: I moved from Ireland to California

What is the most beautiful and yet saddest song you know? by mrsquarein AskReddit
[–]patrickod 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
That song sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. Singing it with Ben at his SF gig recently was emotional to say the least.
I first heard Grapevine fires around the time I also saw "102 Minutes that Changed America". Needless to say the song has really sad emotions linked with it due to this. Double whammy sadness.

Student Interested In Internships In Computer Science Fields. by parowein learnprogramming
[–]patrickod 1 point2 points3 points 11 months ago
Look for college research labs around the place and just try emailing them asking for internships. After that you might try posting something to HN (you never know what might come of it). Try and find any local companies that you think might offer you something, email and see what comes of it. If all that fails then you could try contributing to an open source project of your choosing. I know it wouldn't be the same experience of working in an office with people while coding but it'll look as good if not better on your CV in years to come if this is the route you'd like to take.
Finally you might look at Weekend Hacker where people are posting their projects looking for help. Try help someone there or even post your own idea if you think you might get interest from others.

+1 for Python. It's a really capable and easy to learn language. There is very little that you can't do with it. And if you want to expand your skillset later you can look into things like writing C modules for Python and explore new languages that way.

I've had Google music for about two weeks now, these are my thoughts. by ponchopunchin Android
[–]patrickod 4 points5 points6 points 11 months ago
I used a VPN to request an invite the day it was announced. Used the same VPN to accept the invite and set it up. After that it seems that you don't have to use a VPN to access it. I've been playing / uploading music from my home IP for the last day without error.
Oh and to get the Android app I used MarketEnabler (root required) to mimic the T-Mobile US settings. Not sure if I'll get updates if I change it back however. I presume not
Anyway that's just my $0.02

I've heard great things about the TCD course; really looking forward to it. I was googling there for the various societies in Trinity and it seems that there are 2 different "computer" societies as such? DUCSS and the Networking Society? There seems to be a little overlap between them so why the fragmentation?
EDIT: 2nd question I guess. Do you guys study security at all or is it more that it's referenced when you're studying various topics ?
[–]patrickod 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago
I'm from Dublin. Finishing up my leaving cert at the moment with the intention of studying Computer Science in Trinity this coming year. I'm big into tech, science maths etc. I play the piano to a fairly good standard though it's only in recent times that I've started playing "party pieces" as such. I kayak a fair bit and play frisbee in school with a team. I'm a pretty easygoing guy; always up for a bit of craic.
Vim with Drew Neil, Tim Pope, and Yehuda Katz (The Changelog podcast) by weisenzahnin vim
[–]patrickod 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
Switching to vim from textmate has been one of the best decisions I've made in the last 2 years. As the guys say the only way to really get started is to go cold turkey. I uninstalled TextMate and removed the command line "mate" shortcut that I used in favour of MacVim and "mvim". Never looked back.
