More WvW footage from Totalbiscuit by Syndycatesin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 1 point2 points ago

honestly he needs to stow away his pride an upload just the whole 3 hours online, even without commentary if necessary. People want to see all of it, and although i like his voice, it doesn't really seem worth the several week delay.

Yogscast showing of crafting by Lothiiinin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 2 points3 points ago

The exp bar goes up, but he doesn't unlock the next tier or whatever. What I mean is that as you're crafting it seems that you'll have to craft a lot of useless items that you'll vendor in the process, which doesn't seem to follow their original promise.

[–]pastoralia 2 points3 points ago

I thought Anet said they wanted crafters to be able to level making only items that they needed? In this video, it seems like once you craft a set of armor and weapons for yourself, you'll still have a long way to go on your crafting exp bar which you will need to fill be just making junk that you'll vendor off (like making a lot of bronze leggings or whatever).

You could do it the same way you'd shoot fireballs or throw a bolas underwater: magic.

Guild Wars 2 Beta: Dungeon Part 2: The Lovers by iTzGiRin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia -1 points0 points ago

You don't need to keep the second boss knocked down or stunned. In fact that's impossible because the knockdown and stun durations are so short. It just goes:

Get aggro => get behind an obstacle so the boss you aggroed will run to you

I'm not saying the no boss in the game requires teamwork. I'm just saying I haven't seen a boss in GW2 that requires teamwork yet. I'll believe it when I see it.

Guild Wars 2 Beta: Dungeon Part 2: The Lovers by iTzGiRin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 5 points6 points ago

They didn't fail because they weren't using teamwork. They failed because they didn't understand the mechanic of the fight, because the game does not explain it well. The mechanic is "use line of sight to pull the bosses apart". This mechanic does not actually require any interaction between team members.

Also, what happened to "no end game"? So now we have to wait until max level in GW2 to get boss fights that required teamwork and tactics? That's the case in WoW (the low level dungeons are mindless), so you're saying that's the way it'll be in GW2 as well?

Guild Wars 2 Beta: Dungeon Part 2: The Lovers by iTzGiRin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 4 points5 points ago

You can't simply "pull" them. They're ranged, so they won't follow you unless you break line of sight, which like I said is not a very satisfying mechanic. Also, even if you pull them apart, they can randomly change aggro and run back to the group dealing with the other lover.

Also, the knockdowns hardly help. They are very short duration, and as soon as they're up they'll just run to wherever they were going in the first place.

Guild Wars 2 Beta: Dungeon Part 2: The Lovers by iTzGiRin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 9 points10 points ago

The Lovers mechanic is very messy and unintuitive. Even the devs didn't seem to understand it, because they recommended using boulders, but boulders only cause knockdown, not knockback.

Furthermore, it seems like some (all?) position changing abilities don't actually work on the lovers. Notice that the bosses were unaffected when Lewis tried to do the Greatsword knockback (I also saw this in another video as well). This means that Mesmer has no means of actively changing the boss positions.

Also, aggro seems to bounce around almost at random (it's not just proximity), again making the fight unintuitive. Not only that, but the bosses are ranged, so if you aggro them, they'll just keep shooting you from where they stand.

The only successful run of this boss fight that I saw exploited Line of Sight to make the ranged bosses run to the players. This isn't a very satisfying way to beat a boss.

Like any criticism of GW2, you'll get down-voted, but your statement is true. How could anyone claim otherwise, when looking at the mechanics of this dungeon fight and comparing it to the mechanics of WoW dungeons. If someone can point me to any video of GW2 content that requires actual teamwork, tactics, and coordination, not just rolling and rezzing downed teammates, then I'll change my mind, but otherwise it's just hype.

Play Your Way – Jon Peters on Traits and Attributes – ArenaNet Blog by OxyGenesisin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 6 points7 points ago

Well respec fee seems totally contrary to what they initially said their goals are. It's like they've been in development so long they've forgotten some of their initial creed.

Like look at this comic: http://www.guildwars2.com/global/includes/images/en/calculator.jpg It's making fun of two things: 1 is "mathy" character customization, 2 is inability to respec on the fly.

Now the trait system has turned into mathy stat customization that you need to go to town and pay a fee to respec.

What do you think is the best way to distribute your attribute points? by rickrausin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 0 points1 point ago

It'll depend on what the numbers are for each attribute, i.e. by how much does prowess increase the crit multiplier.

Once those numbers are out, someone will math out the optimal damage build for PvE. For PvP it will be a bit less straightforward because crit burst has more utility than sustained damage, but I'm willing to be we'll still get cookie cutter optimal builds within the first few months. Most of the traits are very "mathy"/stats oriented, unlike, say, the WoW talent trees, so optimization will be fairly simple.

Attacking doesn't break stealth? by pastoraliain Guildwars2

It seems unlikely to be lag since all the rest of the visuals were fine. I'm guessing it"s a visual/gameplay bug.

So we've heard why you love a profession; now tell us about the worst parts of your favorite one. by Sithishadein Guildwars2

Worst part about Mesmer is everyone will be playing one. The Human and Sylari starter zones in particular will be a lazer light show (greatsword is gonna be real popular).

Attacking doesn't break stealth? by pastoraliain Guildwars2

Care to tell me the evidence behind this? Not that I don't believe you, but the two videos up there seem to show attacking from stealth, and I haven't seen a video where attacking breaks stealth.

Attacking doesn't break stealth? by pastoraliain Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia[S] 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure shadow refuge doesn't grant permanent stealth as long as you're inside of it, but rather pulses and grants stealth with each pulse. Also, in the second video, the thief doesn't use Shadow Refuge and still seems to attack while invisible.

What time in the video do they show it? In all the places where he used stealth that I could find, he waited for it to run out before he attacked again.

I guess in the situation where you kill him with only a bit of health left, then the better move would be to get away from him and let him bleed out while you heal up instead of going in for the finish.

Attacking doesn't break stealth? by pastoraliain Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia[S] 0 points1 point ago

So you're saying thieves can attack while stealthed in shadow refuge?

In the second clip, the thief attacks while stealthed without shadow refuge, though.

Are there any videos of attacking actually breaking stealth? I'm trying to find out if what I'm seeing in these videos is a gameplay change or a bug.

Attacking doesn't break stealth? by pastoraliain Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yes, but it seems like they are attacking while cloaked. At 31:42 is where it's clearest, I think. You can see that the thief on the left shoots 2-3 shots while invisible.

Which race/profession will you play and WHY? by verd1ctin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 0 points1 point ago

Do you mean Least Popular Race/Class combo or Least Popular Race and Least Popular Class?

Because the former would probably be Sylvari Engineer or Charr Mesmer, but the latter would be Charr Engineer.

So what profession are you gonna play and why? by _Brosephin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 0 points1 point ago*

They aren't compositing old votes and new votes. They specifically chucked out their old votes. I think all their votes now are post press CBT.

You're out of your mind if you think Mesmer is going to be the least played and Engineer is going to be the most played. Even a casual survey of the flair on /r/guildwars2 reveals this is definitely not the case. Just look at how many Sylvari mesmer alone there are. Mesmer will be the most played, simply because it is the most unique to Guild Wars 2. Engineer is going to be the least played, because a lot of people feel it's not "fantasy" enough for their tastes. Every poll I've seen has come up with Mesmer being among the most popular, and usually #1 in popularity, and Engineer being among the least popular. I don't see how response bias would skew the results in Mesmers favor, and the popularity of Mesmer has not decreased since the reveal, which was a while ago.

Here are a couple more polls that show the same thing: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1043288-8-Professions-Which-One-Will-Be-Yours

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/335263/page/1 (you have to log in to see the results, but I'll spare you the suspense: Mesmer is highest, Engi is lowest).

So what profession are you gonna play and why? by _Brosephin Guildwars2

[–]pastoralia 4 points5 points ago

Actually it seems like Norn will be tied with Asura for third and Charr will be least played: http://gw2census.com/charts.php?pie=total&divide=charrace

As for the warrior profession, it seems like it will be fairly popular, placing around 4th most played: http://gw2census.com/charts.php?pie=total&divide=charprofession . With the most played being Mesmer and Elementalist, and the least played being Ranger and Engineer.

As for specific race-profession combinations, excluding humans (which are the most played race by a fair amount), Norn warrior is seeming to be the second most-played race-prof combo. The reason is that even though Warriors are only moderately popular, 60% of warriors will be either Norn or Charr (about equal numbers for each), which is one of the most skewed profession-race distributions.
