TROPHY CASE

As a Christian, comic book lover and father the writer of this article pisses me off by partofaplan2in OpenChristian

[–]partofaplan2[S] 0 points1 point ago

I don't fucking care if my son and daughter see that there are gay or lesbian characters in comics! They're going to meet just as many people in real life who fall under this spectrum and I'm ecstatic they will! Groups like this just feed into the fears of fundamentalist parents everywhere. This is why Christian bookstores thrive...because of this insane desire to shield as much of culture from your kids as possible in order to make them "holy".

It would be kind of awesome if it was actually Guy Gardner.

The Christian case for gay marriage by TopRamen713in OpenChristian

My case: The church needs to stop trying to keep people from Jesus. Give them a pure vision of Jesus and let him speak to that person how he wishes. If they never change, it's none of your concern. It seems more obvious that Jesus holds accountable those who keep LGBT people at armslength from the sacraments.

Do you know anyone who can truly listen to you and understand what you're going through? I feel that the way I used to do church was that I put on my "spiritual face" when I was in front of people at church, but in private I had no clue what God wanted with me. I had doubts, but I shoved them down because I didn't want the people around me to feel shame towards me. The worst part was the I didn't know anyone in my church circle who understood. The only person who understood was a Wiccan at work. Seriously. The guy said some things that cut to the very heart of what I felt.

Anderson Cooper quizzes supporter of pastor who proposes concentration camps for gay people. by TexDenin Christianity

I'm trying to grow the balls myself. I think I'm getting there.

That being said, it's fucking hard. Why? Because most moderate Christians have families that have fundamentalist matriarchs or patriarchs who have these bigoted view. By standing up to them, they risk accepting the same shame and desertion that LGBT people do every day when they come out of the closet. Not to mention, they proof-text scripture like machine-gun fire, making it hard to pick one apart without proper scholarship. It's shameful for sure, but I understand why it can be so hard to just tell these people to shut up.

The love of God does not cancel the wrath of God. by WalkerMobilein Christianity

You miss my point. You believe that Christianity is the one true way so dogmatically, you would never convert to another religion. This hypothetical Hindu man feels the same way about his religion. He sees no convincing reason to convert either. So, God is going to punish him for being unconvinced?

Are they state controlled churches? Just curious. I don't know much about Christianity in Iran.

Yes, but even that whole concept makes me uncomfortable. If someone chooses to give up their freedom, doesn't it seem inhumane to acknowledge that as right?

I am too. I feel like Rachel has helped me regain my faith along with my wife. My wife thinks it's a little weird I talk about another woman I've never met so much. :)

Natural law is a flawed premise. Many things in nature are more nuanced and complicated than the Catholic church tends to categorize. However, that's not a debate I wish to get into now. Although, I respect your opinion.

[–]partofaplan2 0 points1 point ago

That's your opinion. One that I share, but there are other Christians who are not of that opinion because they believe that you cannot masturbate without entertaining lustful homosexual thoughts. If you can, I commend you.

Edit: And, for the record, God weeps.

I would hope he does more than weep. I hope he has mercy on their souls and changes his mind about damning them after their passing. Such a God I would have more faith in.

[–]partofaplan2 -2 points-1 points ago

I'm sorry, but your post is definitely implying that the only argument anti-homosexuals have is "Paul said so", and that it's wrong. Both of these are debatable. That's what I meant to say.

Yes it is debatable. Although, the argument does primarily fall on Paul as he's the only New Testament author to explicitly refer to homosexuality.

I don't want to misread you, but you seem to be saying that certain types of slavery are OK, as long as the person in question wants to be a slave. If that's what you actually mean, I'd have to disagree and say that any slavery should be considered immoral.

Did I make any arguments about pro-homosexuality denominations?

Also, please tell me what other options he has besides being either celibate, making himself hetero or accepting some form of Biblical errency? Basically, if he wants to stick with his belief that homosexuality is wrong and keep that upon himself, he has the two former options and if he wants to accept his sexuality and act upon it he has the latter. I did simplify it because that's what it comes down to.
