TROPHY CASE

Made steaks with cast iron skillet last night. Have questions! by wedgiey1in Cooking

Yeah, I would keep on cooking yourself the steak, but get her an alternative for dinner-- throw a chicken breast in the oven!

Don't get me wrong, I like Hillary Clinton-- but I just don't know if her going "sans makeup" is really news-worthy. Do you? by painteddreamerin TwoXChromosomes

[–]painteddreamer[S] 0 points1 point ago

The Washington Post has already done two pieces on her in the past three weeks that described just how cool she is-- at the moment, I can only find this one but there was also a recent photo gallery about how cool she has been through the years, starting with a photo of her sitting in Bill's lap when he was on the campaign trail.

And, you know, I think her amazing strides in foreign policy would be a pretty cool hook...

I definitely agree with your point, but I don't like how they used her going "sans makeup" as the "hook" of the column.

My boyfriend and I have two box turtles too (Southeast Asian)! We love your summer home, and think it would be so neat to do something similar for ours!

What types of turtles do you have? I love the white-colored one-- so unusual!

It's my Reddit Birthday, and... well, my twin brother works really hard on his blog about candy and vodka drinks. Could you help a brother out and check it out? by WildfireFoxin food

Wow, that's awesome. Some of the cooler pictures require a click though, it might be neat if he featured some of the "method" pictures on the main page of his blog.

Really creative!

I love it, and I am surprised that the white has lasted so long (have you had touch ups?). It also sort of reminds me of the Dark Mark from Harry Potter in a good way. :)

Chicken Piccata & Cheesy Risotto Balls by scottydonin food

Did you find them difficult to make? I love making risotto, and I often make risotto cakes as leftovers instead of balls, because I'm afraid that my arancini will end up looking terrible!

Law school applications are down: those under 30 have stopped applying by LexUtherin law

[–]painteddreamer 0 points1 point ago

Hey, thank you so much! Actually, when I graduated from college, I was looking to gain experience in a law office, so I went to every single Attorney's office in town handing out my resume.

I will keep on pounding the pavement, and I truly appreciate all your insight!

Any advice you would have on the subject would be greatly appreciated. I am in DC, and despite it being a big city, I am still having difficulty finding work. Although I am embittered personally with the process, I really do hope that there are areas out there where finding a job in the legal field is not difficult, such as yours.

Actually, I took the bar in February. I was working at a small firm (2 Partners, one Associate), and my boss gave me "time off" to study for the bar exam, telling me, "you'd better pass! Give me a call when you're done, so you can come back to work!" I clerked for them both Summers and I have a great relationship with them. When I contacted my boss after the bar exam, he said, "I'm sorry, I just can't afford you anymore." I felt pretty misled.

So, now I'm making more money an hour babysitting than I was at my clerking job, I am working for a temp agency, and I am volunteering for a non-profit until I can find something that is a better fit.

First year, I was up in the top of my class, pursuing a JD/MBA. I spoke to an alum from my school who was working at Skaaden doingM&As. She sounded as though she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown... it immediately killed my "big firm" dreams, but with the pressing student loans, big firm salaries are quite appealing, despite the extreme stress. Good luck to you.

Tips I've picked up on how to resist temptation. These are things I've discovered, and would like to hear how you deal with it too! by earlpluralin loseit

The other thing that works for me really well is making green smoothies. I put 2 handfuls of spinach into a blender, then add frozen fruit (berries or peaches, also pineapple works great), half a frozen banana, yogurt, some quick cook oats (not instant), and water (sometimes I throw in some pommegranite juice), and usually a tiny bit of agave nectar or honey. It actually makes me feel pretty full and energized in the mornings, so I don't overeat as much later in the day.

Having a dinner party and don't know what to make. by jomu1074in food

Yorkshire Pudding! Yum.

Roasts are super easy and impressive. Let me know if you need any recipes. I have primarily done chicken, turkey and various cuts of pork-- all have been quite successful.

Is it a one-dish dinner party usually?

For me, a good dinner party is all about simplicity but ALSO courses. I like some fancy cheese or a salad (or even better BOTH!) for an appetizer.

Also, I'm surprised no one has done a roast! These feed a crowd, they look SO impressive despite being so easy, and they are quite inexpensive.

Also, what is the weather like where you are? It is a bit warm where I am, and a nice fruity sangria might go well as a before-dinner drink, or you could make it with extra fruit and serve it as a dessert!

For me, if I have sweets or unhealthy snacks in the house, I know I will eat them. Somehow, when I buy them, I always delude myself into thinking that I am buying them for my boyfriend, and that I won't eat them. But... I am always wrong.

So! I do not keep things in the house that are both unhealthy and easy to pop in my mouth, and INSTEAD, I keep frozen grapes stocked up in my freezer to eat when I am fiending for some sweets.

Perfect pork chops... by nursemerlynin Cooking

Do you have a meat thermometer? If you cook it to JUST under 145 degrees internal temp (it will keep cooking after you take it off the heat), it will come out perfectly.
