IPv6: Norway is leading the way in preparing for the move to the net's new addressing scheme. US, UK & China not in the readiness top 20. by Dara17in technology

These stats are based on AS numbers, which means that each network is weighted equally, regardless of whether it represents 1 user, or 100 million.

Google's stats are much more practical, because they reflect actual IPv6 deployment to end users:

they obvs don't know left from right

When people hear "left", the default action is to interpret it as a command, and move/look left. It takes a second for the language processing to kick in and realize that you're actually giving a negative command.

What do you guys think about mutual funds? by sirgunfirein investing

[–]p1mrx 0 points1 point ago

A fund can be actively managed (where you pay higher expenses for someone to do stock picking) or passively-managed (where the stocks just track an index).

A fund (active or passive) can be packaged as a Mutual Fund (where you buy and manage the investment directly through the fund provider) or an ETF (where you trade it using a brokerage account).

So, some index funds are ETFs, and some ETFs are index funds.

For example, Vanguard's Total Stock Market Index fund is available as an ETF, or two classes of mutual funds.

1.37% is a huge expense ratio. You can get index funds with ERs below 0.1%.

RFC6598: IPv4 /10 range for carrier grade NAT (until IPv6 is fully deployed) by unquietwikiin ipv6

[–]p1mrx 1 point2 points ago

That's my point. Almost nobody has DS-Lite equipment, so the CGN can't be a DS-Lite AFTR, which is why this /10 is useful. Or are you saying that ISPs should force all the customers to buy a new router?

RFC6598: IPv4 /10 range for carrier grade NAT (until IPv6 is fully deployed) by unquietwikiin ipv6

[–]p1mrx 0 points1 point ago

If a customer doesn't have a router that supports DS-Lite, how are they going to connect to the AFTR?

Even if every ISP rolled out IPv6 tomorrow, some form of CGN would still be required, due to all the IPv4-only equipment and applications sitting around.
