considering it's done with a mouse that's pretty good :P

Looks really cool, so do you mind explaining briefly how this was done step by step? The cuboid shapes for example look really cool, were only the shapes generated in processing and rendered somewhere else or also ray traced in processing etc.

I'm not quite sure I fully understand how difficult it is. I mean I do but I haven't had proper work experience.

I don't think it's all fun, but it's mostly fun, I enjoy that stuff, programming, especially games etc. I don't think it's a walk in the park and certainly it's not at all all fun like playing games or whatever, after a while you can't bare to look at your game lol.

I still think that it's fun and the challenges of games development are interesting and exciting.

Ah yeah I saw that thread too I kind of skimmed through it, really cool thread, actual examples too.

In this thread I wanted to find out what other maths or anything would be useful though, as that other thread asked about calculus specifically (although the answers may have been more general on the whole).

Ahh, as I keep on learning more about games and the games industry I hear more and more bad things. Doesn't really sounds like a good time :/

I heard some annoying, discouraging things about the games industry, especially to do with the big developers and publishers. On the other hand there are many encouraging success stories, showing that if you have the talent and the dedication you can really make it.

I really still sometimes have mixed feelings about all that. Sometimes I feel like it'd be really awesome to make games and I would love doing that and I can't wait to start doing that and be paid for it. On the other hand I think that maybe I'd be better off with something like web applications, consulting or something along those lines, maybe that'd be better paid and more stable... sigh, indie dreams lol

Thanks, that's excellent advice.

I am interested in physics but not practically enough. I understand the gaming applications of some physics stuff but not deeply enough I don't think. I'll definitely be looking into that more.

I heard that it's tough, and getting into it isn't easy, at least from my experience x) I'm currently looking for a placement and haven't had much luck so far.

I get vectors, I think I get matrices, and I don't quite remember Bayes theorem. I did an AI course (the one from stanford with Sebastian Thurn and Peter Norvig) and that covered Bayes theorem, but I never implemented it in practice myself, which doesn't help my learning ha

Cheers :)

I'm not sure what part of games programming I would focus on yet. It's hard to tell/decide, especially as I'm still studying :/

But I would like to try some proper graphics programming because it's apparently quite challenging.

Do you mean that a geometry and matrices would be useful in balancing?

would you be able to give an example of multivariable calculus being used in games?

Thanks, I'll definitely look into that even if only for a bit. I've looked into python, not very deeply but I like it.

Although for programming games I'd like to practice my C++ more. I'm studying Games Tech so I've done some games programming in that and Java.

I tried reading up on Quaternions, seems simple enough, just like 4D vectors and stuff, but I haven't read through much lol

Nah, that's great, thanks :) I've started collecting CS and gaming related PDFs so this is perfect lol

I understand probability, perhaps not fully to be able to apply it in any situation, but I can use my google :P same goes for matricies although I know less about those than probability.

I love solving problems though, and I always think of solving different problems, even things I'm sure there's a solution for but I'd like to come up with it myself. Mostly simple stuff just for fun, but if I needed to I'm sure I can google and find the right stuff :P

I think I'm alright at programming. I'm just wondering whether I should read up on some maths that could help me with programming as I should have some more free time now.

I'll definitely post the results especially if I get good input :)

Hopefully I'll get a good amount of input, I'll post on Games, thanks for the tip.

thanks for your feedback. you're right about that question, also probably tick boxes allowing multiple selection would have been a better, since people are quite likely to have several different platforms to choose from and the pricings are obviously quite varied. And yeah, I would expect to see those two groups to be quite prominent, but then that should make the data quite simple to interpret.

I'm actually a part of a team and we're pitching a game idea for a game design excercise. We'll talk about the idea, market potential, development plan etc. That's about it with the actual data. I don't plan on using it for anything else. Obviously the knowledge will remain and hopefully will be up to date for a little while :)
