Damon Lindelof explains the finale. No apologies. by Jo_Nahin lost

What defines "real"? If it's experience, then I completely agree. If it's space and time as we know it, I disagree.

Chronologically Lost is great. It's like watching Lost in New Game+ mode.

Would you read a lost comic? If it was set in a certain time, like when Dharma first came to the island. That did not affect the overall mythology of the show, but added to it? by hurlyburlycurlyin lost

[–]ohhimark108 1 point2 points ago

If it were based on a time period we've seen I'd like it to be canon, but only Damon and Carlton can make something canon, so maaaybe not. But I'd love to see new stories take place on that island, in comic book form, sure.

Definitely has to be Lost. I don't think I've ever felt how I felt after the final shot.

Might get downvoted for this but I actually really like that blindfold look for Catwoman. Kind of gives it a cool S&M approach. Obviously if she actually couldn't see that would be stupid.

I presented you several instances of the writers alluding to plot points earlier than the last four or five episodes. You essentially ignored them. There has been glowy light on the island for a while whether you choose to see it or not. I wish you would see it, but if you're insistent that the writers had no clue, that is fine too.

I don't keep insisting they had the entire story mapped out. I said when they were coming up with season 2, they were also coming up with a lot of the things that would have a huge impact on the show in the future. In fact I very clearly said "I don't think the writers are infallible, and I'm not naive enough to think the writers had everything planned to the detail since day one." But just because we didn't know the source was responsible for the monster doesn't mean the writers didn't either. They are entitled to withhold mysteries. If you don't like the answer, I don't blame you, I was underwhelmed myself. But that doesn't mean they made it up on the fly. Maybe they thought it was really cool 5 seasons ago and couldn't wait to show us.

I think the 20% of it they knew the entire time (not including season 1) was the mythology. The other 80% of it they made up as they went along. I say this because absolutely nothing is stopping them from coming up with the mythology right off the bat. All of the Jacob and four-toed statue (Both first seen/mentioned in season 2) could be hinted at without them giving a payoff seasons down the line. They can write it and get it out of the way and write the show they really want to write, which is the characters, like you said. It's when they get in situations with actors like Eko or Walt, or certain actors do better than they expect that they change the story for them. But when they first came up with the monster or why Walt was special, those are season 1 mysteries that I think they had little idea of where they were going with until later on.

I love Lost's characters too. That is of course the success of the show. I couldn't agree more. The mythology is hollow bullshit in comparison, but I enjoy it. It just doesn't mean anything without the characters associated with it.

I've never cared about the numbers. A set of numbers keeps showing up at different points and times. How could one possibly answer that? If the question is "how did they get there" it still doesn't help explain the times when the numbers were spoken aloud by coincidence. It's something the show and Damon Lindelof (long before the end of the show) has said "just is." If the question is "what is their significance", personally, the candidate explanation is satisfactory for me.

Yeah I was kind of embarrassed for the interviewer. I've seen him before and he's typically a smug guy. He seems like he was prepared to tear Damon a new one until Damon was basically like, dude did you even watch it?

You're going to need to be more specific. What "weird shit"? What 90-degree plot turn? Also, there's no need to be hostile. You can believe what you want to believe, and so can I, but I feel the need to defend my point.

Electromagnetism has been a major part of the show since season two, the glowing light under the island since the end of season 2. All of the mythology was written between season 1 and 2. We first see the monster at the very end of season 1. It was all being thought up around the same time the writers were having to try and figure out what was going to be in the hatch they'd been teasing people with.

I don't think the writers are infallible, and I'm not naive enough to think the writers had everything planned to the detail since day one. All I'm saying is we've known about the source since season 2, we just didn't know it was called the source or what its significance was. It's not hard for me to believe that the writers could have known how the smoke monster interacted with the electromagnetism on the island by season 2, considering this is also the season we see the monster imitate the dead for the first time. I'm not including Christian because clearly they didn't know Christian was the monster at that point.

Look up the greek god Apollo, as in Apollo Bars introduced in season 2. "The god of light, prophecy, healing" This is also the first season the mention Jacob, as "Him." I'm not going to beat a dead horse. I have a feeling you have your mind made up already, but if you've finished reading this, thank you for the time.

I can't say how long they knew there would be an underground cave of electromagnetic light on the island that would need protecting, but I can tell you that there have been two instances of people going underground to interact with said light: once in season 2 when Desmond turns the failsafe key, and the other is when Ben turns the frozen donkey wheel. You can see the light behind it before the island moves. That's at the end of season 4.

If the fact that it's a cave matters to you, than we can forget it.
