A question for the artists in this subreddit about getting started designing tattoos... by ogcmin tattoos

[–]ogcm[S] 0 points1 point ago

Haha, no I'm not planning on ever doing the tattoo itself on me or anyone else. Also, why'd you assume I drew that to be a tattoo? I mean, yeah if it were much better I could see it, but that's just something that was on my mind while I was practicing using the pens; so, I drew it :) I will be practicing a lot from now on, though. I actually really like drawing with pens. I feel more comfortable doing it, somehow. And again, don't worry I won't be touching a machine anytime relatively soon, if ever at all.

Recently have started acting upon my love for body art (tattoos) and instead of looking at pictures of them all the time, I am starting to design them. A few questions about drawing with pens and ink... by ogcmin learnart

Best advice I've received on this topic so far! Thank you, I actually noticed what you're talking about from the first sketches I was doing earlier.

Here is what I drew earlier. I have two other pages of doodles and sketches where near the later ones I was gaining more steadiness and stuff. This is a really rough sketch of it though, and I plan on making other and better copies.

Well, I am for the most part. I'm pretty good with graphite drawings and I've been designing with Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. on the computer for almost a year now. I sold two logos and I'm working on another for my boss at the bike shop I work at. I'm just not used to using pens and am looking for tips on how to use them properly as the mechanics for shading and what not are not the same as pencils. I know cross-hatching and everything, just seeing what things I might not pick up on right away that I can learn from someone else with more experience, yo :)

Edit: I do have a quick sketch of an idea I had earlier I can show you if you'd like.

How do you mean? I have a piece of paper I've been doodling on for like 30 minutes if that'd suffice?

If this is "out of practice," then damn. This is better than anything I can draw and I've been "in practice" for a solid 6 months now.

Okay, thanks for the tips.

So, you have an ink well that you dip the pen into? Also, a paint brush? I assume you just dip it in the ink too and use it, right? And one more thing, are all these things found at a regular arts and crafts store or easily found locally?

Hey, I'm an aspiring artist and am looking into designing tattoos by hand rather than on my computer. What materials do you use? i.e. pencils/pens, paper, etc.

So, I have a feeling my boss at my work is making it look like I'm not doing my job correctly so he can fire me. Am I being paranoid and over-thinking what he says/does? by ogcmin SocialEngineering

Yeah, okay. I mean, I wasn't freaking out but I had things to do left and right in a short period of time. I was calm and collected, just got a bit overwhelming in my mind at a point, you know? And yeah, I'd rather not even argue about anything that is false. I think whatever we discuss tomorrow I will just own up to, be cheerful about it and move on with the day. I just really don't want to lose my job right before I'm off to college. I'll make that push for learning repairs and stuff soon as well, though.

Where do you find your tickets?

So, I'm looking to get my first tattoo. On my hand. Everyone I talk to tells me a) I'm an idiot b) I'll never be able to find a good job or c) to get it elsewhere. Example inside... by ogcmin tattoos

You do bring up a point. Waiting until I can comfortably say it's safe to do it would be the smartest decision.

But, is there a difference between speaking to my youth and speaking to who I am? Is it automatically me speaking from naivety and inexperience or can I just be trying to express myself? I'm definitely going to think about it, but if I were to be turned away from something because of it then, as my thoughts on it now, I wouldn't want to be surrounded by whatever I was turned away from if it would have involved discrimination. This is a tough one.

Hm, thanks for the insight. I didn't plan on getting it soon, I planned on thinking about it for a while due to its placement. Which I will do, and the fact that I'll be doing internships and what not probably means I should wait until after school. Thanks for the advice.

What series would that be? I'm intrigued.
