TROPHY CASE

Bypassing ISP speed limit using multiple wireless connections/adapters by obsessive1in techsupport

[–]obsessive1[S] 1 point2 points ago

Thanks, it's a good idea, but it seems a bit resource-intensive just for speeding up downloads (and I can only really see it working for torrents).

I'll give this a try - thanks!

Thanks - I think I can rule out 'merging' the connections into one. At the moment, I'm looking to try and find a download client that supports the use multiple connections (i.e. the first half of the file is downloaded on one connection, and the second half on the other), but I'm not having much luck!

Not as far as I know - the one on the Onion is easy to bypass, because it was just an overlay placed over the top of the page. Hulu works differently, by simply refusing to serve the content to people from non-US IPs. The only way I know to access Hulu from outside the allowed area is via a US proxy or VPN.

I use AdBlock. If you go into the adblock settings, and go to the customize tab, there's a box you can put custom filters in.

It shouldn't be too hard to get it blocked with other adblockers if you don't use adblock.

You can also get around this one in chrome (with adblock), by blocking the gregbox-overlay and gregbox-wrap DIVs, or adding the below to your filter list. www.theonion.com##DIV[id="gregbox-overlay"] www.theonion.com##DIV[id="gregbox-wrap"]

Have you tried it using i386 instead of amd64 in LD_LIBRARY_PATH? A quick internet search shows this has helped others with the same problem.

I had a similar problem. Are you on 64 bit? I fixed the problem by replacing the 32 bit libraries in the ~/.minecraft/bin/natives/ directory with the 64 bit ones, and then setting my Minecraft startup script to: LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/java/jre/lib/amd64/" exec java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp /usr/local/games/minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame [username] [password]

The important part being to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the 64 bit java libraries.

If you're not using a 64 bit architecture, then I have no idea what is wrong, sorry.

Agreed. VLC would lag a fair amount with HD videos if I was ever doing anything else at the same time as watching it. (S)MPlayer stays smooth pretty much whenever.

I seem to remember there was a greasemonkey script replacing imgur links with filmot links somewhere. I can't remember where it was, but it'd solve your problem.

Can Linux affect your bios at all? And does having linux on your laptop void your warranty? by emtdanin Ubuntu

Actually, the operating system can affect the BIOS, but it's rare when it does. Otherwise it wouldn't be possible to update the BIOS from within the operating system.

I'd give this a go first (although it looks like GRUB itself is loading OK if you get the rescue shell). If that doesn't work, it could be your config file is missing (which would explain the error). Running grub-mkconfig from a livecd will create a new config file you can use, which should hopefully fix the error.

Set up the GMail account in your email client using IMAP - make sure you download all the headers, not just the most recent.

Most clients will let you create a rule, so that if an email matches a criteria, it replies with a predefined message. Simply create a rule with the reply message set to the one you want, specify the criteria, and get it to process the rule on items already in the inbox.

It's probably easier said than done though.

You're right, it installs just like a normal windows application, but it doesn't leave Windows running when you start Ubuntu (it modifies your bootloader and creates a virtual filesystem - you just select Ubuntu when you turn your computer on).

The only issues I know of are the filesystem being more vulnerable to corruption, and not being able to hibernate properly.
