it sounds like the partition table might be corrupted. gpart will scan a drive for partitions and rebuild the partition table based on what partitions it finds on the disk.

and i know spinrite got bashed on reddit last time somebody posted about it, but it's recovered a few pretty messed up hard drives for me lately.

but the standard RMS criticism is that he needs to show a little bit of compromise, and accept that non-free software exists and sometimes you need to work with it. so here he is, admitting that non-free software exists and he works with it. and people are attacking him for it.

the GNU project (RMS's baby) includes gnu coreutils, gcc, make, bash, gzip, and many other programs that allow your favourite programs to exist.

i think mmmberry means carpenter when he says builder. having worked with electricians, they generally consider themselves to be construction workers. most of their work occurs on construction sites.

i've heard my boss say "people are stupid" many times, i've never heard "the customer is always right".

you try to interpret what the customer is saying to give them what they want. often times what they say directly contradicts what they want. my ability to provide my customers with excellent service is dependent on my ability to ignore customers when they're fucking retarded.

tims screws up my order in my favour enough that they can do no wrong. most of the times i've been to tims has been with my ski team, and they can't for the life of them keep track of orders with more than about 10 items. every time we get at least one extra meal.

if they don't abide by their rules the rips don't count. when a scene group uploads a rip, it allows them to download a certain amount of stuff from other scene ftp dumps. if it doesn't follow the rules, it doesn't count.

i would get two external hard drives each big enough to back up both computers and not waste my bandwidth. plug one drive into each computer and run local backups all week. once a week, swap the location of the drives and you've got offsite backups.
