A pretty big "whoops" by newblueshoein AskReddit

[–]newblueshoe[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for that. Just wanted some reassurance before taking the plunge. Talked to him today and he was totally unfazed... we had been playing phone tag for a while before his birthday, and he assumed it was his fault that we never connected. Whew...

How Abortion Should Work in My Opinion by XFraggerXin politics

[–]newblueshoe 4 points5 points ago

So your suggestion is to use forced sterilization to prevent abortions? And in the event people will not submit to a sterilization, they will face jail time? Also, it is not entirely clear from your description--the woman would be allowed to have the second abortion and would then have to submit to sterilization? Would men be required to get a vasectomy (note that both vasectomies and tubal ligations can be reversible) after two women they impregnate have abortions? How would that be fair, given it is not the man's choice? How fair would it be on the flip-side that men could impregnate many women who have abortions, but women can only be impregnated and abort twice? Also, what is this system? You're suggesting a nationwide abortion tracking system with tons of sensitive personal information in it? I guess my real question is, How practical is your suggestion? It seems to me that you really just want to limit abortions to emergency situations and prevent "repeat offenders." There are probably better ways to do this than using the penal system or state enforced sterilization. What if prices (ie through taxes) went up for subsequent abortions? Not saying I like the idea, but it sounds a lot better than sterilizing women or throwing them in jail...

What mandatory class do you think should be taught in high school that is not? by opioneersin AskReddit

[–]newblueshoe 0 points1 point ago

Came here to say this. If you don't know auto mechanics, you can be taken advantage of by your mechanic (if you're lucky enough to have a car). If you don't know carpentry/handyman stuff, you can be taken advantage of by contractors. Don't know finances, your financial advisor, etc... If you don't know at least the basics of the law (and I mean more than just "Yeah, there's a Bill of Rights and stuff...") then your very rights can be taken advantage of. Sure, the other things can be of great consequence, but the fact that SOME sort of basic legal education is not standard in the US, a country that prides itself on its rights (read: freedom) is just fundamentally absurd. Edit: *car, not "one"

There are always sufficient return vehicles docked at ISS for all members of a mission to return in case of an emergency. As far as I am aware, these are almost always Soyuz vehicles (which, as noted below, are just about the safest space vehicle ever made--even though they have had some glitches lately: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2084341,00.html)

A fair criticism, as I noted earlier in the comments (albeit to someone MUCH less polite than you). Still, I did a couple of searches and hadn't seen it anywhere. My source was a pretty well-connected friend.

I, for one, will be doing that from now on. Unless I take the photo myself. Well, maybe even then.

Upvote for a self-aware username. Also, for informing me that this is a repost. I guess I don't know the internet (or Obama) as well as I thought I did. I had never seen this...
