Colorado may get its first "diverging diamond interchange" (these are a neat design) by rockymountainoystersin Colorado

[–]naughtius 0 points1 point ago

Dumb driver meets neat design at night,

dumb driver makes a right turn to stay on the "right"/wrong side,

dumb driver hits incoming traffic and kills three people.

This I predict will happen.

Thousand Islands Lake, China by Suriv_Dnimin pics

[–]naughtius 6 points7 points ago

Don't be ridiculous, the lake is a reservoir, so that's kinda artificial, but the islands are not artificially laid out, they were just local hills before the river was dammed.

Four IMGUR links on the front page... by templeowlin asoiaf

What eggs look like before they come out of chickens by SickLaughterin WTF

[–]naughtius 0 points1 point ago

The big ones are like egg yolk wrapped in a layer of thin sac, the small ones are hard to describe, maybe a little like caviar injected with mixture of egg white and yolk.

China's results in international education tests -- which have never been published -- are "remarkable", says Andreas Schleicher, responsible for the highly-influential Pisa tests. The findings indicate that China has an education system that is overtaking many Western countries. by mad_capin worldnews

[–]naughtius 0 points1 point ago

I agree, I have relatives in China, it seems the sole focus of school education there is to get good score in college entrance exams, while real education should be more than that.

What is WTF about this? I have eaten many of these when I grew up in China, very delicious cooked together with the meat.

What knowledge do you wish you had before you ran your first marathon? by Siaphanin running

If you train in 40 degree weather and race on an 80 degree day, you are going to have a bad time.

What is the most addictive book you've read? by girlpriestin books

[–]naughtius -1 points0 points ago

I will certainly be downvoted for this, but in my opinion there is 80% chance the author will not live long enough to finish the story, and another 15% chance the author will finish the story in a hasty and unsatisfactory way. If you haven't read the books yet, it is better for you to wait and see if the author can finish the story, especially if you are younger than the author.

I got Slackware 1.2 on my first home installation, but it was downloaded so there is no CD to show.

Downloaded over company's dial-up internet (shared by a dozen people), took weeks.

I know this one: Short story "The Dying Night" by Asimov, which was written when people incorrectly thought Mercury was in 1:1 tidal lock with the Sun.

Turn right at the Shire, left at Weathertop, you shall see Mirrormere on the right, and Gilgalad is on the other side:

I used to live half mile from this.

Hey, redditors. I like-a chase-a the tornadoes. If you live anywhere in this giant bullseye of death, you should pay really close attention to the weather tomorrow. That is all. by chakalakaspin geek

Agreed, as a private pilot I often check the Convective Outlook charts, I do not remember seeing forecast probability above 50% on that chart ever. Wichita and Oklahoma city may get some serious shitstorm this Saturday evening.
