For about 6 years of my life, people called me 'Mushroom' because of a simple misunderstanding. Do you have any weird nicknames that you love/hate? by FuckingSuperin AskReddit

I was playing poker once with 2 friends and a couple of strangers. They asked what my name was and I said "Robert" in a low tone (kind of mumbled) and no one really heard me. They assumed I had said "Rambo" so now I am know as Rambo at the poker table.

Unsure about my post flop play here. Any thoughts would be appreciated! by throwaway_almostin poker

Had a similar hand but result wasn't good. Home game, Blinds: 1-1

I was SB and limped in with AJ and raised preflop 5Xs big blind. Only one caller (button). Flop comes out JJ4. So I've hit a set with a beautiful kicker and I bet about 3/4 of the pot to try and get him out of his hand. This player was very loose, so he shoved, at this point I put him on a draw and I called. He was on a flush draw like I expected and he hit his draw on the turn 5. River didn't pair so I lost that hand, but I didn't feel that bad or go on tilt.

Yea I am definitely going to clarify the situation and place rules. I don't want anything like this happening again. It just looks bad and can not only cost money but also friendships.

thank you! I mean c'mon we also just started and it has only been a few months. This is the first time this happened so we had to go with what we felt was right. But we were wayyyy off.

the thing is that Player Y believed X to have an Ace high straight. So he gave everyone the impression that he gave up on the play. Both Y and Z told X "that's good". So it was a misread by both since they didn't really check X's cards.. Since X saw their reaction, he went for the chips, once he was collecting them Y realized X didn't have a straight. X was the dealer so he didn't really say anything.

But yea now I understand that it should have been Y's pot. We all just thought that since both Y and Z "accepted defeat" by thinking he had the Ace high straight, and not saying anything, and letting X collect the pot, the hand was "over". So that's when we all thought that Y had no right to collect the pot anymore.

I have to learn from this BIG mistake. Now I feel bad.

Yea we are all rookies. The thing is that after every hand we play we don't always say "fold" sometimes we just say "i almost had you, i needed one more" or something along those lines and just throw the hand away face up or down. In this situation it was VERY CLEAR that both Y and Z gave up on the play. They didn't recognize that X only had a pair of Queens. Like I said it was right after he was already collecting the money that Y realized X didn't have a straight. Did Y have the right to get the money back from him?

My friend, brother and I agreed that the hand was already over.

Thanks for your reply btw.

We all haven't played for long, only a couple of months. This is the first time a situation like this has come up and that's why I am posting this. I should have clarified this.
