Nice try, Chris Hansen.

Thoughts on Solid State Drives or other aftermarket hacks to significantly boost performance? by mtvatemybrainsin DJs

I found a nifty script at DJTT a while back for this very thing and while I found it helpful, it's certainly no panacea.

oh, at least this was on a napkin. initially i thought this was on some giant sheet that someone went through a lot of trouble to hang and drape.

To all Traktor users: How To Properly Beat Grid. by RichieHawtinin DJs

[–]mtvatemybrains 0 points1 point ago

Bro, super-thanks for stressing this.

I've been messing around for hours a day for the past four months -- sometimes everything would sound tight (probably because of decent auto grids since I've been using harmonic mixing from the start) and sometimes it seemed like nothing mixed right. I kind of just wanted to jump into it and start playing with phrasing and looping and decided to leave the beat-matching/gridding for later... it was certainly more fun this way because the results were musical. I also avoided playing a lot of songs because they just never seemed to sound right. But if I was just playing for myself or friends then I could give a shit; fucking up is part of the process.

I think that at least now I'm able to appreciate the repeated advice that if you're gonna use sync then be damn sure your grids are tight; and I wonder if I had just followed this advice from the start if I would have ever learned its importance for myself. I spent some time watching vids and puttering around in traktor with the grids but it didn't really click for me until I understood the need for it through my own experience... and now it seems like I'm able to zip through most tracks in 20-30 seconds.

Does braiding 3 ropes together make a rope that is stronger than the sum the individual ropes? by eatporktooin askscience

[–]mtvatemybrains 1 point2 points ago

On a semi-related note, I was wondering earlier today why is it that wet ropes have less strength?

niiiice. passed the small-speaker test with flying colors. (if it rocks me on little speakers then it'll roll me on big ones.)

Okay, so I just found this ridiculous deal on Amazon ($350) for some M-Audio DSM3's and while it's a little more than I thought I would spend, it seems like it's too good of a deal to pass up.

Okay, so I've been reading more about the DDJ-T1's and I'm ruling it out -- just seems like it was rushed to market.

Anyone have any opinions on deal-breakers between the DNMC6000 and the S4? I realize the DNMC6000 is a standalone mixer which is pretty attractive.

How's the resolution on the jog wheels? From what I've read, the S4 seems to have superior precision.

I'm looking for more of a "bug out" kind of shelter that will last years. In this case it won't be moved more than several times but what's important is that once it's setup that I don't have to be concerned about breaking poles or tearing holes in walls. So I was considering something like canvas. I'm also looking for a tent that's large enough to stand up inside; not so much a conventional camping tent.

i'd say that's a fair and balanced statement.

okay, so i posted it to r/beatmatch immediately after you suggested it; however, with 177 subscribed there has only been one reply. it seemed that posting in r/djs would bear some seasoned fruit of many flavors. i am not disappoint.

yeah, i have kind of been wondering if anyone gives any more than a second's thought about it when they're on the floor, as long as it's not too harsh -- and from my own observations it seems that a "perfect" set doesn't happen all the time so it's no big deal if there's a couple quirks.
