Thanks, I'll take a look at coreboot. I tried installing grub from the repositories, but it looks like all it did was install the binaries. From what I can see, I'd need to boot from usb/floppy to get grub actually installed.

Edit: looks like my board isn't supported. And I don't see any other PPC boards, so it may not be likely any time soon.

To be honest, I'd rather they not bother me every time I'm doing what some people would consider dangerous. But I know the pain. I made the mistake of mixing up the 'if' and 'of' of dd when backing up a hard drive.

If I understand correctly, they sometimes package the linux kernels in the different x86 versions (i386, i486, i586, i686). The generic kernel just means that it works on all of them. It's not optimized for i686, but it is backward compatible with i386. Again, this is just my understanding, and I may be completely off base.

First of all, that quote is wrong. What he said was:

Also, I highly doubt Bernie Marcus cares so much about the profits. He's listed as one of the top charitable donors in the country for his donation to help create the Atlanta Aquarium, the Marcus Institute (a center for children with developmental disabilities), and the Bernie Marcus Foundation.

EDIT: also, he's no longer the CEO as of 2002.

Conjecture. Evolutionary psychology is limited to untestable hypotheses. Some of them are very reasonable and are probably correct. This one is not.
