I was living in a fraternity house, and I had one roommate who was the epitome of selfish. I studied abroad last spring, and came home and immediately came back to work an internship in New York (5 or so hours from school). He continued living in the room by himself with most of my stuff still in it (I took my TV home, luckily). Our fraternity was fortunate enough to acquire a bigger better house, but there was one catch: the lease on the house with all of my stuff in it ran out a week before the new lease started and our landlord was trying to chase us out early. The rest of the guys in the house pooled money for U-Hauls and storage units to put in all of our stuff. I was unable to leave NY in the middle of the week on such short notice so I called my roommate and asked that he kindly treat my stuff as his own and just move it all to storage. My brand new bicycle was also chained up in the basement, so I told him the combination. He said it was all taken care of.

Flashforward to August when I go to move my stuff from storage, and none of it seems to be there. My roommate had put it in the SHED behind the old house, including my bike unchained. Needless to say every single thing I had in the room was either lost or destroyed. The legs were broken off my desk, my leather office chair was soaking wet and shredded, and my bike was of course gone. I would estimate the total value of the lost items at around $850, not to mention some old baseball pennants and irreplaceable items of that nature.
