No, the reason people are making a deal of it is that other people keep saying that queer people don't care about kids, or that if we allow same-sex marriage, it's bad for children. That's clearly absurd to you and me, but this is a real "in your face", real world response to that kind of thinking.

I would definitely be interested in meeting people who communicate in American Sign Language (ASL), but even just having "Sign Language" would be great. Yes, each sign language (JSL = Japanese Sign Language, for instance) is a completely different language, with its own grammar and everything. It's pretty cool.
