You're setting yourself up to be a forever alone by sending a girl a message completely out of context that says "I love you" and "Will you go out with me?"

As someone else mentioned, it's creepy. Even if she doesn't read it as creepy her "friend zone" bells are going off like an alarm.

What you should've done instead is try to begin a dialogue where you get to know each other better, and there is no reason to "ask someone out" if they can't go out with you because they live far away. Imagining she didn't live far away, the dialogue you begin can gradually become more intimate, and a natural opportunity for asking her to hangout will come about.

Confessing your "love" was the real killer here. Do you even know what it means to love at your age? Love is not a crush.

There's a B movie called "The Tao of Steve." It's one of those chick flicks that has guy appeal.. Dumb I know, but it's worth watching because Steve's "Tao" helped me a ton (as a smart geek, which I'm assuming you are, trying to figure out what women want) and I think it would help you too.

There's actually a whole genre of "suicidal food." It's not a very popular or widely discussed niche, but some people do collect signs/ads/etc depicting pigs happily slicing, bbqing and broiling themselves. Also chickens, turkeys, cows.. you name it! This website has some good ones, if you dig around some and overlook the over-the-top anti-meat message.

Having tons of evangelicals in my family, I've seen quite a few letters and emails like this. The paragraph you're referring to is very much a template in them, always used. I find it very peculiar... It's so obviously a soft opening to a money request that it screams "disingenuous."

Every time I read it, I'm reminded of those phone calls you get from someone you havn't talked to in a year. As soon as you see their name on caller ID, you think "Wow, I havn't talked to them in a while, I wonder what they want?" You answer, and they start interrogating you: "How are you? What are you doing for work nowdays? Etc." You impatiently work through their questions, waiting for that shift. And then it comes: "Oh hey, I was wondering... Do you think you could [insert bullshit task they need that you don't want to do]."

I was reading an interview with Radiohead's graphic designer (Stanley Donwood) a few years ago and he mentioned he had just read a difficult book called "A Wild Sheep Chase." My favorite way to find new books and authors is finding little mentions like this in an interview or maybe a Facebook post (from someone who's intellect I respect), etc.

I read it knowing nothing about Murakami and his style. When I finished, I didn't really know what to think about it. I didn't understand the book, but I liked it. I went to get another book and the bookstore only had Norwegian Wood, so I bought it. I found it emotionally gripping, and was thrilled by the unusual character development and the way the book/plot just kind of "faded out" in the same way that Naoko fades out in the story.

Since then, I've gone on to read most of his English translations.. Still slowly working through 1Q84.
