You're employing a false equivalence here suggesting that both science and religion, as philosophies are equally benign. History does not jive with that. There is no widely-accepted scientific philosophy that promotes the intolerance of other innocent creatures, but in religion, there is. As a civilization becomes more prosperous and healthy, science grows and religion decreases.

I'm not saying the OP's cliche is accurate either, but your criticism also makes fallacious claims and sweeping generalizations.

No, they are not committed for religious reasons. They are committed for material reasons, but what makes people do otherwise horribly inhumane things to innocent strangers is very often motivated by religious ideals.

Osama Bin Laden had a legitimate beef with America and its military incursion into his cultural land and their support for regimes oppressing his people. That has nothing to do with religion - it was all about various nations battling for resources at the locals' expense. But what allowed him to fill up a bunch of airplanes with suicide bombers was religion.

Let's not forget that Ron Paul:

does not believe in church-state-separation
has three times authored bills that directly enforce his particular religious beliefs upon everyone in the nation at the expense of peoples' freedom and liberty (See: "Sancity of life act", "we the people" act)
does not believe in global climate change
does not believe in evolution
wants the US out of the UN
wants to end birthright citizenship
believes businesses should have the right to refuse service to people based on race, culture, religion and sexual preference

You assume that the judicial system can't be as easily corrupted as the government? It already is. As it stands, whoever has the most money and the largest legal team can basically destroy whoever they want. So how would Ron Paul's vision of a legal system protecting peoples' property rights be mysteriously immune from special interests when there's never been any example of that ever happening in real life?

Ron Paul is a bad choice. He may be anti-war, but he's also a rabid evangelical who does not believe in the separation of church and state. He's introduced numerous bills that seek to nationalize his personal religious ideals and revert decades of law as well as neuter the power of an entire (judicial) branch of government. He has no real plan for how the country would work - he simply has a laundry list of things he would shut down, with no thought to how things would properly function beyond that.

A more appropriate choice would be Dennis Kucinich who is also anti-war, but has a much more pragmatic and rational outlook and agenda.

As far as moderation, there's virtually little to no moderation here. Most of us never do anything except check the spam filter.
