Just so you know, thyroid misfunction doesn't have to be some genetic thing. My husband caught a virus that infected his thyroid - it's called thyroiditis. And that can make all kinds of wacky things happen until your immune system conquers it. :)

Everybody in this scenario is selfish. The guy who killed himself is doing it for himself. The people that saved his life are doing it for themselves. Being selfish is how we live our lives. That doesn't make it wrong or disgusting. It's just the way things are in matters of love and family.

If 65% of the state employees are female, and there are budget cuts, then it stands to reason that females will be more impacted. But it also stands to reason that the state is giving more females jobs to begin with so perhaps they are better off to begin with.

Chillax. You did the right thing. Getting her to come clean about it to her parents on her own allows her to acknowledge the problem, which is the first step in dealing with it.

Had you told her parents without her consent, she would have felt betrayed and may have continued her downward spiral.

I do hope that her parents are going to provide some psychiatric treatment rather than just isolating her from her friends. Hopefully you can encourage them in this direction.

Last year my husband started having these issues where his heart would speed up to 180bpm unprovoked and stay there for about an hour. Classic symptoms of an anxiety attack - except when it started we were on vacation and happier than ever.

We got everything checked out and it ended up being a thyroid issue. Hyperthyroidism brought on by thryoiditis.

So before you automatically assume that this is a mental health problem, please go see a physician and exclude your physical health first!!

Yeah, either getting roofied is like 100x more frequent than reported, or people don't realize the impact of drinking on an empty stomach. Nearly every one of my girlfriends claims they have been roofied at some point or another, and I just have trouble swallowing that there are that many guys out there dropping things in people's drinks.
