My understanding is that not showing up is pretty much an automatic excommunication or disfellowship.

Which, if you don't believe in the faith, doesn't really mean anything. But to me, it's the difference between saying "I quit" and "You're fired". Obviously, you'd prefer to do the former.

In my mind, there are three great reasons to get your name removed:

Physical separation. You won't have home teachers or bishops showing up at your door trying to recruit you back to church, as tended to happen to me quite frequently.
Emotional closure.
Makes it so the church is unable to unnaturally boost their membership records when they report them back to the church. Something like 50% of their numbers are inactives, but they include these in their reporting of membership.

Biggest advice I can offer:

Hire a day-of-wedding coordinator. Usually the person in charge of your location and/or flowers will be willing to do it. Believe me, you want to enjoy your wedding and not be dealing with the five thousand little issues that crop up.

Emotionally, you asked him to do the impossible. It's difficult to try to picture the person you love with somebody else and not go crazy. It's difficult to try to be emotionally intimate with somebody new while you still have feelings for someone else.

It sounds like you don't have problems with loving multiple people simultaneously, but realize that this is a near impossible request of many human beings. Your ex falls into this camp. You must accept this.

My advice: go interview with companies that do phone support in-house. They are far and few between these days, but they do exist. And then you can work your way up and out of the call center into more interesting roles...

Once you've modified photos yourself, you know what techniques are used. You can look for cloned pixels that are repeated over and over again. You can look for out-of-place shadows or lighting that doesn't make sense. You can look for blurry areas where imperfections may have been hidden...

It also works at Apple because the designers are the primary decision-makers on the products, how they look, and how they function. At Microsoft, design has held no important role with the company for its entire lifetime. There is no design figurehead at Microsoft. Most design organizations are centralized and used sparingly like an external consulting group. PMs, who are largely ex-devs, do most of the design themselves and cursory usability testing isn't sufficient to elevate the design of their products to "delightful" levels.
