TROPHY CASE

The "forever alone" as a psychological diagnosis - The excessive use of video games and online porn is creating a generation of risk-adverse guys who are unable (and unwilling) to navigate the complexities and risks inherent to real-life relationships, school and employment. by Loyoverin TrueReddit

[–]mcantelon 2 points3 points ago

I strongly believe that this economic despair that I keep hearing all around is misguided.

The despair is engineered and promoted, so while you're correct that some people can potentially - with discipline - free themselves... the majority of people likely won't. One of the reasons bullying occurs in nature is so a strong party can, though abuse, weaken a lower status party, further increasing the bully's relative strength. Despair is being promoted because during a fundamental economic shift in which a minority benefit and a majority lose there will be discontent. Someone who is not in despair may take action that threatens the ascendant minority. Someone who is in despair is less likely to take action.

The more secretive government in Canadian history, that oversaw the largest mass-arrest in Canadian history, values freedom? Right.

This will be an institution that will attempt to blur line between church and state in Canada and back up pro-Israel-lobby-driven US foreign policy internationally.

That's one of the things they use the footage for. The footage is otherwise used to identify people, some of who are caught subsequently on CCTV committing a crime and some of who are of simply of interest because of frequent political activity. The use of video cameras by police for surveillance of protest predates the prevalence of CCTV. Cops have historically kept file on activists, long before computers and video cameras became widespread.

Faulty logic... like saying everyone should be jailed because we don't do enough to prevent people we know from committing crimes (otherwise crime wouldn't exist, right?). Taking away the rights of people who haven't commiitted crimes as punishment for those who have committed crimes is the simpleminded response of a society that doesn't understand the value of liberty.

Riots cops don't wear normally wear badge numbers (and, often, non-riot cops at protests don't either). The situation now will be that activists have to reveal their identity yet cops, paid by the public, can operate with no accountability. Cops can now more easily keep files on people, harass them, and target them at demos. And by tying assembly with identity anyone unwilling to risk being targeted by authorities can no longer protest.

Anon's a pretty decentralized, amorphous "organization": different groups acting independently with different tactics and targets. Folks working under the banner of Anon have done a wide range of actions: some idiotic, some admirable. These guys, specifically, are protesting a cult. So not sure what your beef is with them, pointing out flaws in their appearance and clothing and all.

because they saw your face on the news

And their own video footage. Cops with video cameras are a pretty common occurance now. Cops keeping files on activists is more or less a tradition.

We'll get our tragedy in slow motion and by the time we realize it it'll be too late. What saved the working and middle class in the 1930s was corporate reliance on domestic labour. We had leverage. In the face of globalization, and a business community that's politically engaged, the odds are stacked against us.

Not saying retailers are mentally superior, just that when your livelihood is dependent on a publicly available interface and is in a competitive sector then it's obviously advantageous to be careful about public interactions that may alienate potential communities/individuals.
