There's an Elliot Roger Cummings that died in Florida in 2008, does that sound like him?

Also would you say Ancestry is worth the money?

The US edition is, but I wouldn't get the World one unless you already know some European ancestors.

These guys are hiring. One of my sons works for them, and on a good month, his commissions will be as much as his salary.

Tracing the McAuley (Irish) name. Can get it back to Francis McAuley (Born in 1757) but no further. Any info or advice? by Pepe__Sylviain Genealogy

[–]mbrutsch 1 point2 points ago

That's the one I found, in a family tree belonging to Machan2006. I'll look for immigration records; if I can find when he came over, I'll have a date range for searching for Irish records.

Lots. South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, London. Can you narrow down where he might have been born, or lived?

I have a William Morrison in the 1901 Scotland Census:

  • Name: William Morrison
  • Age: 14
  • Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
  • Relationship: Son
  • Father's Name: Hugh Morrison
  • Mother's Name: Mary Morrison
  • Gender: Male
  • Where born: Lanark, Motherwell
  • Registration number: 644/3
  • Registration district: Dennistoun
  • Civil parish: Glasgow Springburn
  • County: Lanarkshire
  • Address: 11 River Street
  • Occupation: Message Boy
  • ED: 123
  • Household schedule number: 82
  • Line: 23
  • Roll: CSSCT1901_279
  • Household Members:
  • Name Age
  • Hugh Morrison 41
  • Mary Morrison 41
  • Maggie Morrison 16
  • Frank Morrison 15
  • William Morrison 14
  • Bridget Morrison 7
  • Thomas Morrison 2
  • Mary Ellen Morrison 2

And again on the 1891 census:

  • Name: William Morrison
  • Age: 4
  • Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
  • Relationship: Son
  • Father's Name: Hugh Morrison
  • Mother's Name: Mary Morrison
  • Gender: Male
  • Where born: Motherwell, Lanarkshire
  • Registration number: 639
  • Registration district: Dalziel
  • Civil parish: Dalziel
  • Town: Motherwell
  • County: Lanarkshire
  • Address: 6 Leslie St 50 Murray Ter
  • Occupation: Scholar
  • ED: 3
  • Household schedule number: 155
  • Line: 24
  • Roll: CSSCT1891_235
  • Household Members:
  • Name Age
  • Hugh Morrison 31
  • Mary Morrison 32
  • Margaret Morrison 7
  • Francis Morrison 6
  • William Morrison 4
  • Ellen Morrison 1

I found this match for a Hugh Morrison, but the tree has been removed by the author:

  • Birth: 01 Apr 1860 (1 Apr 1860) - Glasgow
  • Marriage: 04 Nov 1879 (4 Nov 1879)
  • Death: 10 Apr 1901 - R.I (Rhode Island)
  • Parents: John Morrison, Margaret McAulay
  • Spouse: Mary Reilly

Any of that look familiar?

Any idea where he might have settled after the war? Where he was born? I find a Charles B. Phillips who was a cadet from Massachusetts in 1860, a retired Colonel in Michigan, another in Ohio.

Any of you guys try this service? Their service seems awesome but I'd like to get testimonies before trying them out. by technomadin Genealogy

I did it back in 2007; while the information was interesting, it did not help me locate any additional family connections. It did, however, lend credence to some suppositions about the geographic origins of my father's family.

My best guess would be Pratt Hathern, Leicestershire and Southwark, Surrey or Pratt Leicestershire.

The Encyclopaedia heraldica or complete dictionary of heraldry, Volume 2, By William Berry describes the arms as having "three bezants, two and one" (a bezant is a gold coin); the shield in your picture might have 2 blobs over 1 blob, but it's too rough to be sure. I think this might be a good start, however.

There are plenty of Istvan Vargas born abt. 1877 in Hungary, but they all arrived after 1900.

If you're sure he sailed on it in 1881, then I can try to find him on the passenger lists.

As far as I can tell, the "British King" did indeed sail from Liverpool, but it was not built until 1881.

No, Ancestry has no Russian records per se. Also, "Selman" is pretty close to "Solomon", and there are lots of Solomons. I'll try to find some good sources outside of Ancestry, though, and if I do, I'll link them in the sidebar.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Patrick Eugene Bennett married Eleanor M Plebane Bennett on 13 Jan 1982 in Clark County, Nevada. What's weird is that the source information says:

Clark County, Nevada Marriage Bureau. Clark County, Nevada Marriage Index, 1956-1966. Las Vegas, Nevada: Clark County, Nevada Marriage Bureau.

So I'm not sure why a 1982 marriage would be included in the '56-'66 Marriage Index.

There's also a "Patrick Eugene Bennett" who was born in 1926 in Illinois, and died in 1991 in Los Angeles.

I think the 'Plebane' from the Nevada might be a type as well as the date, since there is an Eleanor Plebanek who was born in 1926, also in Illinois. That spelling fits with the pronunciation you gave.

A "Michael Bennett" married a "Susie Keller" on 17 Feb 1985 in Hood River, Oregon.

Here's a picture of Susie Keller from the 1969 Golden Valley Junior High yearbook, in San Bernardino, CA. Does that look familiar?

There were several Susan M. Kellers born in California around that time. Do you remember her birthday?

Oh, small world. Here's Michael Bennett, also from the 1969 Golden Valley Junior High yearbook. If that's not your parents, it's a heck of a coincidence.

That's a start. Let me know if any of this looks or sounds familiar.

It would help to know what you are looking for. I found his naturalization record. I'm guessing you know about his wife Josephine, and their children?

Man, that helps a lot. They were married on the 28th day of February in Glasgow. He was a hairdresser's assistant (formerly married to Theresa ?M?ogl), she was a "spinster". Looks like his parents were William and Wilhelmina Shulz, hers were Peter and Margareta Muller. Here, try reading it. On the 1901 census, he was living in Chelsea. His mother's maiden name may have been Ehrhardt. That's all I got.

Here's the Flynn family in 1870, living on 33rd between 10th and 11th:

  • Dennie Flynn, 36, b. Ireland
  • Mary Flynn, 36, b. Ireland
  • Thomas Flynn, 18, b. Ireland
  • James Flynn, 16, b. New York
  • Margaret Flynn, 19, b. Ireland

I'll see if I can find a passenger manifest from the British King between 1852 (when Thomas was born in Ireland) and 1854 (when James was born in NY).
