Question for expat redditors in Singapore (in particular Americans) by 10b-5in singapore

[–]makanguru 3 points4 points ago

Without doubt, first hand information is the best. I am a local Singaporean who has spent a good amount of time living in the US in my past. Basically, in terms of personal safety and freedom, Singapore is a great place to live in. We are very westernized, with a majority of the population here able to speak and communicate in English to varying degrees. We are a very multicultural society here, and I think that makes us a very nice and interesting "introduction" to Asian culture as a whole. On a final positive note, I do hope you enjoy your food and are adventurous when it comes to it as Singapore is known to be one of the most diverse countries in the world when it comes to cuisine.

However, there are some downsides. Intellectual and political freedom are pretty suppressed here. As long as you remain a law abiding citizen you will have no issues, do not attempt to or even think about challenging the status quo as our legal system here can be pretty harsh and unforgiving. Car ownership is an exorbitant endeavor here. Just to obtain the right to own a car will currently cost you between SGD 58 to 80 plus thousand.

My only personal main complaint about the country is the heat and humidity which I HATE, but then most foreigners coming from countries of cold climate seem to LOVE it. I guess its all subjective. Due to that heat though, you will find almost EVERYTHING air conditioned here.

Lastly, beer is CRAZY expensive here. So yeah, don't freak out when you get here and see the bar prices.

So, if after reading everything, you feel like taking the plunge to join us on this piece of rock, in the immortal words of Chow Yun Fat, WELCOME TO SINGAPORE!

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says he is "very frustrated" that the team have failed to convert a competitive car into a lead in both championships. by makanguruin formula1

Plus changing their entire pit team is not really correcting their issues at hand. In fact, having an entirely new team of people might even make it worse for them imo.

Well, the parent company of SBS, ComfortDelGro, owns several bus and taxi companies in China as well, if this company is owned by them as well, I am not surprised they are using the same livery.

I actually like Grimm, and so does the GF. It's a bit of X-files/Fringe with Grimm brother's tales mixed it. I actually started digging up some of the old Grimm bro tales to try and get a better understanding of the references made in each episode. Interesting story plot, dark at times, funny at other times, and intelligently written imo.

I am sad too, it was just starting to get interesting especially with all the characters. There seems to be so much more to explore about Walt and his "issues". i actually enjoyed it a hell lot more then Bones.

This shows how fucked up the NBC market research team is. I would rather have my eyeballs slowly destroyed with sandpaper then watch the crap that is Whitney.
