Socks AND chocolates from Switzerland! Happy days! by lugasamomin awesomesocks

When I lived with my brother in Germany while he was in the US Army, I used to live off those Kinder Eggs. Can't get them here in the US because of the small parts. My kids wished they could get them here, too.

It's his 90th Birthday. He lived thru the Depression, served in WWII, led a swing band, and lived to build computers himself. by big_burgerin pics

As I get older, 90 doesn't look so old to me anymore - love that his family loves him so much to do this. And love that he survived the Depression AND knows computers! Just like my (late) father. Like a boss, for sure!

True - but why all the bashing of the girl? If he could have said what she said for him, she would not be perceived by so many down-voters as a karma whore. But because she spoke for him, she's the bad one. That's what I am saying.

Reddit is becoming such a negative energy force at times. Sad.

Nevermind. If you have to ask, it's not worth explaining.

If he could have posted this for himself, would that make a difference? It shouldn't.

Thank you for that! I spent most of this year in a horrible school in Learning Support and inclusion with mean-hearted people who, IMHO, really do not like children who are different (read "not easy"). I've been at this new school (same district) and have found how much I love the work. I was a lawyer (technically still am but not actively practicing) when I went back to school to become a teacher. Jobs are scarce here so I took what I could get. I was disappointed at first but now I am working with some wonderful people. The teacher makes the difference. Thank you for appreciating your aides!

Read only the good ones and, hopefully, all the jerks will be down-voted. I work with elementary-aged students with autism and I know what's involved in such an accomplishment. Be proud - for him and for so many others who have overcome challenges and succeeded.

I work with students who have varying degrees (mostly pretty severe) of autism. They do look at you in the eyes. They may not hold it for long but our eyes meet all the time. Just because you read it on the internets does not mean your assumptions are true.

I have diabetes and wear an insulin pump. Some people have diabetes who take oral medications. Some people have diabetes only when they are pregnant. Different degrees, different types but all diabetes. True diabetes.

My armor is sandy clean and ready to back you up. WTF is all of the people's problems? I work as a one-on-one with an elementary aged child and know exactly how your girlfriend feels. It takes a lot to find out how smart/sweet/wonderful/whatever a child is once you get through the noise and interference.

WTF - I know this will be at the bottom but I work with elementary students with autism and to be able to say someone, like the my student, with autism has been able to graduate from high school would be awesome.

To me, it would be karma whoring if he did not have autism. Giver her a break. These are happy times.

I did that, too, until he got too old and became seriously embarrassed by me at his parties. Yeah, he'll miss those someday.

Yes - all my birthday gifts feel like Mother's Day Gifts.

My birthday always falls around Mother's Day. In fact, 50 years ago tomorrow, I was born on Mother's Day AND my father's birthday. Almost 18 years ago, I gave birth to a child on the day after my birthday. I will NEVER have a birthday that is just MY day so if I take four days to celebrate this weekend, I deserve it. But I won't. As usual.

Yes, that was wonderful and clearly from someone who does understand. These words can help with other types of loss as well. Thank you for them.

And I'm at home, in bed. tearing up over all of this, above and below.

Who is smarter, you or your SO? How do you feel about it? by smootiein AskReddit

[–]lugasamom 0 points1 point ago

No. Not my point at all. I never said he was a dumb-ass. I was just smart enough to get him to do most of the laundry. Of course, it was mainly because I work two jobs and take classes at night for my masters.

We are both intelligent but, by far, I am the smarter one. He does nearly all of the laundry (there are five of us in our household) and does most of the cooking.

My mother printed up an email she received, in color, and snail-mailed it to my daughter. She has all our emails and is always forward crap. Don't know why she stuck that one in the post.

I had the same experience when I was in labor. They give you this stuff in case you need to have a C-section and have to have emergency surgery. Made me throw up all three times I had to take it.
