Boom Mic With an H4n by thecolorsplorgein Filmmakers

I shot my thesis film with an H4N on a makeshift boompole and it worked out pretty nicely. If you do use the H4N's built in mic, buy a good windscreen for it. I've had good luck with redheads.
I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about stereo sound. When you actually need a stereo effect, like a car passing from left to right, it'd be better to do that in post with panning.
I need help entering my thesis film into festivals. It is a 6 minute foreign film. (self.Filmmakers)

What should I do with my graduation money? by ltidballin AskReddit
[–]ltidball[S] 0 points1 point2 points 13 days ago
I'm all about critical thinking and independent learning, I'm only asking because I'd rather learn from the experience of others.
I'll be travelling abroad for the summer. Lining up freelance work and looking for a real job when I get back. I want to come back with a kickass demo reel, portfolio and experience.
any suggestions?

Thank you sir...
I kindof completely hate this demo reel since I only made it the night before portfolio reviews. Now that having a good demo reel finally matters, it's worth putting the time in. This is the advice I was looking for.

You definitely don't want to alienate them but at the same time, you'd only think about saying a non-canned response when it's appropriate.
The other day I was waiting in line because the credit card scanner broke. While waiting for it to work, the guy asked me how my day's been and it had genuinely been a pretty shitty day up till then so I said "pretty bad actually". He apologized and got a bit awkward. I added "Don't worry, it's not your fault."
I couldn't help but laugh at how much power telling a stranger that you're having a bad day has in this context. There's nothing they can do either since none of it is their business to begin with.
Sets of Nikon Lenses by NukeUin Filmmakers
I doubt you can get all that in one lens without spending an arm and a leg. I'd suggest picking up a prime lens, anywhere from 35mm to 50mm (depending on whether or not you have full frame) for closeups. They've usually got f-stops down to 1.4 or 1.8 and cost under $200.

f/filmmakers, where do your passion for filmmaking is coming from? by Uberballsin Filmmakers
It's the ability to expose people to an experience that you're completely in control of to its finest detail. It's something that you learn more about each time you work on it so there's a potential to someday achieve some sort of level of mastery. Films can be so vast and versatile and there's a multitude of directions you can go with it so it and places around the world that'd be amazing to be at and shoot at.

Might as well include dystopian films. I've never watched The Road
