Dodgers president trying to bring the Winter Classic to LA? by snappyjin hockey

[–]lovemyguitar 0 points1 point ago

As much as I'd like it, I'm fairly certain there's no way in hell the league ever goes for it. Not for the Winter Classic. Fairly certain they keep it in the North-Northeast. For one, the image they go for is that classic winter - players out in the cold, freezing temps, snow on the ground. Not L.A. Also...west coast means they'd have to have the game earlier in the day for the east coast viewers. Probably too early to be good conditions. Best bet is the league doing some other kind of outdoor event for the west. Don't see it though.

What does a team like the Columbus Blue Jackets have to do to turn around their team? by Unlucky13in hockey

[–]lovemyguitar 0 points1 point ago

A team like the Blue Jackets (ie, a team with a losing or poor history) needs to develop their team. Through the draft and trades for young players who can develop with the team. And the management needs to create an identity for the team - what kind of team does he want them to be, what kind of game do they play - and bring in players who fit that identity. Bring in the right veterans to teach the young players that identity. You can't just pick up whatever is available, throw it together, and hope for the best.

And ownership needs to buy into that philosophy as well - they have to understand and accept that it may take a few very poor years in order to build something better and worth it. If the owners want to win now, there's not much you can do unless you have a couple big pieces that you can move for big returns immediately, and, of course, get the right players back. If you don't have those tradeable pieces and the owner wants to win now, you're boned - you pick up spare parts, whatever players other teams want/need to get rid of, and force young players to play who probably aren't ready.

Damn Kings, you scary. by Readyrockin hockey

Working ok so far.

Like I said, it didn't matter if he was actually involved in the scoring, it just made everything fall into place for the team. The team responded positively. That's what matters to me.

After the trade, the Kings averaged near 3 goals a game; compared to barely over 2 before the trade, even after Sutter. Whether or not he, himself, was scoring, or in the case of the last 5 games of the season even playing, his arrival on the team just made everything click. The Kings suddenly got the confidence they had been lacking, they had two legit offensive lines, and players could be slotted in their proper places.

So, yes, once Carter came on.

I really respect Dustin for his ability to maintain a sense of humor through the season he's had. That can't be easy. Horrible season stats-wise, embarrassing injury, wife files for divorce, still come in and crack jokes and laugh at yourself.

How many games do you think Dwight King will get for this play? by WoozleWuzzlein hockey

Like when a player crowds or bumps a goalie...so the goalie's teammates shove the guy on top of him. Have the good sense to push them AWAY, not ON.

How do you feel about your division? by LazzKnucklein hockey

[–]lovemyguitar 5 points6 points ago

Agreed. The past few years most every team in the Pacific has been competitive. Sharks, Coyotes, and Kings have each made playoffs last 3 years; last year the Ducks also made the playoffs, so 4 of the 5 teams were in it. And while the Stars miss, they do seem to stay in the race enough to not count them out or take them lightly. So there hasn't really been a significantly weak team in the division since the Kings and Coyotes started making it. Hell, even this season the Ducks were only 1 game below .500. There's no easy team.

Obviously, I'd like it if there were more of those "easy" points for the Kings, but I also like that it is a tough division so it feels as though the success is more earned - as opposed to getting a good regular season record by playing 1 or 2 very weak teams more often.

Oh, smoking is bad and can fuck up your health? I didn't know that! Thanks for the heads up. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to throw up as I imagine the guy losing his food through the hole in his neck.

It's not as though it was a cross-check or hard hit square to the back driving him into the boards. It was a push and Pietroangelo fell into the dasher. I think the boarding call was a good call. I don't think there should be anything further (I am biased, obviously).

However, King is a no one; Pietroangelo is a, relatively, big name and missed the rest of the game. I haven't heard much of anything yet on his status or if he'll miss any more time. So I could see them giving King a game or two.

Penner has really stepped up his game so far this postseason. That's good for the Kings, but I'm also glad because going through that kind of season has to be really tough on him.

Edit: Accidentally a word.

Who own the Chiefs?

With Phoenix's win tonight, the last time any of the remaining Western Conference teams was in the Stanley Cup Finals was the 1993 L.A. Kings. Before that? The 1970 St. Louis Blues. by set123in hockey

And the Kings are the only team left in the West to notch a Finals win. The Blues were swept in their three appearances. Go Kings go!

Yep. And, looking at rosters and stats, it's not as though you can say they were poor choices to make. But, as the saying goes, that's why they play the games.

My first year in college I'd listen to the radio broadcasts streaming from NHL.com and chat on the game day thread. The stream had such horrible delay, refresh the page and see 'GOAL!!!!' and who scored it then hear it.
