The other day I found out I have a cavity. When I told my mom she responded by telling me I need to floss more, use fluoride, and see the dentist. I'm a dental hygienist. Reddit, what advice do your family or friends give you that is unsolicited, redundant, or ridiculous? by wintersherein AskReddit

My father-in-law spent 10 (admittedly drunken) minutes giving me advice on how how to most effectively condense the alcohol from still that I was building... I'm a chemical engineer.

Why in the world would you use cannabis as a fuel? People seem to think that because parts of it get you high, it must be perfect for everything.

There's better options out there.

How is C-11 like SOPA and PIPA, and why should we blackout the internet for it? by lolocaustin canada

Simple. I had the grades for coop, and that's what it took. In my resume had two summer jobs doing two different things, and I guess that was enough. I'm very good at presenting and talking, so I guess that helped the interview.

Let me list the things you have right:

tar sands is bituminous it's extremely viscous

Alberta is one of the only places in the world that CAN handle the bitumen. The pipeline is only because there's unused refining capacity in texas that needs to be retrofitted to handle the bitumen (which is diluted so it can be pumped). I'm not sure you even know what you're talking about when you say the oil is dirty and crude...

"And what's more is that the tar sands oil is extremely dirty, making it that much more toxic."

What does that even mean?

It's not correct. The correct ratio is 1:6.

Fugacity: they teach it in school and the real world just uses a fudge factor.

It's hard to tell, because the river runs through natural bitumen deposits. So it's basically a "who knows?"

It's an "Ask me anything", not a "I know the answer to everything" :)

Haha, how young are you. Yes, that is how the world works.

Choose to work somewhere that is good for you and where you can make a difference.

Good luck if you graduate from college.

I don't get the hypocrisy. I would prefer Non-CO2 sources, but that's not an option. So I do my best to make the oil and gas industry the safest and most environmentally friendly that is can be.

I think the bigger challenge to fuel cells is storing the hydrogen. The principle is simple, but the hydrogen tank is hard.
