TROPHY CASE

Does anyone have any experience getting vinyl pressed? by alabamfin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]lolbacon 0 points1 point ago

I've gotten 7"s pressed from this place. Turned out really nice. If I had the funds I'd do it again. I live near by the place so we were able to just pick up the records from them. Not sure about shipping on 100 records, but it's probably a lot, so just take that into consideration.

Hey, WATMM, what are good studio monitors for the price? Can I get away with spending ~$100-150, or am I fooling myself? by SethReinekein WeAreTheMusicMakers

You have any recommendations on a decent amp? I got some Tannoy PBM 6.5 passives a while back, but have either been using my powered PA mixer with some 1/4" cables I hacked off and spliced onto speaker wire, or the AUX input on my crappy, super colored, CD/tape/radio shit thing, which basically defeats the purpose of flat reference monitors.

I was sad at first, but it's actually a lot better to watch bands in there now. You don't have to crane your neck around the tree if you're in the back to get a good view. Plus you can put your drinks on the stump. If you saw the place at all before it closed, you'd consider it a good thing. Ryan's done a really nice job with the place.

Nice. The synths have a sharp chiptune vibe. Good melodicism. There was a 2-note synth pattern that picks up in the middle chill section which I felt got a little repetitive. Production sounds good. Everything is pretty clear.

Appreciate it. Wasn't sure how well jazz horns would fit with horror.

Cool bluegrass jam. I like the fiddle. The mix could be clearer. Sounds like a lot of the instruments are fighting for frequency space. Some EQ to separate them a bit would help. Also, some kind of percussion might add some rhythmic cohesion. There are a couple parts where it seems to stumble a bit. I like the song. Great vocals. Has some of the epic Mumford and Sons quality to it.

Nice track. I like triplet hihats. Cool triumphanty synths. Nice bass drop. I could see some sweet R&B vocals over this.

Fuck yeah, I think I have that record. Awesome job. The jazzy drums are sweet and the sample sounds really clean. The production is hot and crisp.

My buddy made a really horrible short film while he was at Full Sail asked me to do the music. I've been working on it for a while and just finished. Here's the highly NSFW video in all it's splendor. Basically just curious of general thoughts.

So who's doing February Album Writing Month this year? by CressCrowbitsin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]lolbacon 4 points5 points ago

Planning on it. I actually created a subreddit the other day that I almost forgot about. I did my first one last year and successfully finished. Also did the RPM Challenge alongside and recorded most of the songs. Gonna try to do that again.

Restaurants/ Bars you will never go back to? by randommusicianin Columbus

I think they've toned down their recipes a bit since opening. I remember going when it first opened and I was blown away. I don't have a great geographical frame of reference for authentic Mexican food, but I'm a sucker for unbearably hot food and Cuco's tickled that fancy. I've been back since and while it's been pretty good, it's become more Americanized I think.

I've heard they're not kind to criticism there. Some folks from a wine tasting group I roll with parlayed a story about how they witnessed a woman who wasn't too impressed with her dish tell Alana. Apparently she took the woman's plate, threw the food into the garbage, walked across the street to the bodega place and bought a frozen burrito, threw it in the microwave and served it to the lady.

I'm still curious to check it out, especially since I'm a huge wine geek and they apparently sell bottles at state minimum with a small corking fee.

Did you go early? It's not unusual for bars to ask for a cover charge from people who were in the bar before the show started/the door guy started collecting. Not saying it's kind of shitty, but it prevents people from showing up early for a gig to avoid paying a cover, and it's definitely not exclusive to Bobo St.

Thanks man! Playing with the band on Friday at the Tree Bar. I'll xpost to /r/columbus probably tomorrow. Marvin the Robot and Sigmon are also playing. Should be pretty sweet.
