Is the maintenance of a standing army unconstitutional?

The U.S. has had a standing Army since the end of the Revolutionary War. Following the Civil War there was a reversal in that we maintained a larger standing Army instead of demobilizing as we had done after previous wars. Just another change that conflict brought.

I am extremely aware of the J-bad incident as I was in country at the time. And personally I think that the men of that unit should have been brought up on charges; and served time in prison if convicted.

95% of the time they are kids (22 and younger) without lot of real would life experience who haven't traveled to other countries and who haven't really been exposed to the horrors that men do to each other outside of the "Islands of Civilization" that they live in.

GJS, I'll give you a chance to read through the thread again. NmNicks already said that he was of the opinion that all troops are deserving of being spat in the face. I then asked if they would include Police Officers and School Teachers in the same category.

NmNicks then affirmed that Police at least were. (avoiding the School Teachers).

NmNicks then claimed that he has no need (and never will) of assistance from the military or the police. I then told him that may he enjoy the end results of his political philosophy.

Neither of you sound like you are Libertarians, more like Anarchists.

I don't know too many Libertarians who advocate assault (which is what spitting is) against public employees, though I know many Anarchists who do.

I'm a fan of the plain brown neck gator when I'm breaking in a new set of body armor to keep the neck chafing down to a minimum.

Only other times I've used one was when I was up in the turret or when we were off road (Afghanistan's dust sucks).
