Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack (teenager's mother finds him locked inside the nurse's office, unconscious on the floor.) by Sugar_Skullin politics

[–]likethatwhenigothere 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. But this is precisely the problem with the modern world. In my day, if I ever cut myself at school, a teacher would take me to the office (we didnt have a school nurse). She would chuck a bit of antiseptic cream on it and put a plaster on it. Job done.

Nowadays though, in the same situation, the school will phone the parents and ask them to come from work to apply the plaster. Silly as it may sound, this whole procedural form has come about because of parents. Teacher tries to help, parent didnt like the outcome and sues the school.

I'm sorry parents of today, you can't have it both ways!! That school will have those procedures in places because of previous issues. As harsh and inhuman as it may be, it has come about because of the actions that have come about previously.

In the UK, we get shit like this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2104358/Simon-Burgess-drowned-firemen-refused-wade-3ft-deep-lake-health-safety-rules.html

because of health and safety procedures that have been brought in.

And I'm really sorry to say this, but it's the fault of the Americans. The UK used to be a country of common sense. However after becoming hooked on American tv shows where there is always some court room drama about people suing for the stupidest things, we have now adopted your national motto of 'if there's blame, there's a claim'.

For that school, hey the kid needed the inhaler, yes. And common sense would have said to help him no matter what. But lets say they did give him that and he had a reaction to it. Who's going to take the blame? Is the parent going to say 'these things happen, you tried to help, you werent to know, etc...". NO! She's more likely to say 'what were u doing giving my son medication i hadn't approved??" then sue them.

It's sad state of affairs, we're in!!

I am a reasonably successful international female model, AMAA by modelthrowawayin IAmA

[–]likethatwhenigothere 23 points24 points ago

I can sort of understand this. My flatmate had a uni friend visit one weekend and he had told us she was model who had done catwalks and photoshoots for big name designers.

When she turned up, you could understand how she was a model (her height, build, features etc...) however if he hadn't told us beforehand that she was a model, I wouldnt have guessed. Mainly because I think what people perceive 'hot' to be, isn't actually shown in models. I'm not saying models aren't hot, but it's different to what a guy in bar might be more instantly attracted to. It's like when you see a girl who you think is good looking and she has probably been told a load of times 'you should be a model', however in reality, she isn't really suitable for that modelling. Might be able to do a bit of glamour modelling for a lads magazine, but not runway type stuff. If that makes sense.

Research: 44% of Facebook users will ‘never’ click sponsored ads by webibizin technology

[–]likethatwhenigothere 0 points1 point ago

It's ridiculous for the people survey to say 'never'. Don't get me wrong, I rarely click on an advert on the internet, however...there has been the occasional time that I have seen an advert and been genuinely intrigued. On facebook, I saw an advert for threadless and thought the tshirt design was cool that I clicked on it. Was frustrated to be taken to the main threadless site and not the product page, however the advert obviously did work. You should never say never cos you never know whats around the corner. And for me, thats why this survey is shit. If someone asked me if I would ever drink my own piss I would say no. But if I found myself stranded in the desert the next week, and I was dying of thirst, I would probably chug it down like it was a frosty cold beer.

Not just this, Reddit is starting to make me cynical of everyday life. :(

My first time in the UK and I'm in Southampton. What to do? by stephen_jin Southampton

Ah, its okay dude. I didnt mean to go off on one.

Like I said, Dockgate is more for older people. You dont have to change your post. But it looks like he's sorted anyway. He was apparently at the Hobbit last night, which is a lot younger crowd, more students.

He's probably best heading to Bedford Place to be honest. There's plenty to choose from round there - Revolution, Yuzu, 90 degrees, Orange Rooms, POP, Tokyo...

Dockgate 4 for clubbing?? For a 24 year old? Are you high?? The only reason anyone would want to go to Dockgate is if they fancied picking up a cougar. Certainly not for clubbing.

And the restaurants you offer are The Harvester and Banana Wharf? Sheesh. Mate, if you fancy Indian, go to The Coriander Lounge. If you fancy Thai, go to Mango. If you fancy Italian, go to Scoozi (there are loads of Italians, but its cheap and decent). If you fancy seafood, I'd probably suggest the Olive Tree. If you fancy steak, you have Ranchos, but I've heard Buffalo Bills is better. I had a steak in Coco Rios last night and that was decent.

My mum has absolutely no idea how much money my dad has. In the same situation, she wouldn't have clue. So chill your boots. Just because in your situation it might seem unlikely, doesnt mean to say its not true.

why? because of my lack of comic book knowledge? pfff, i can bluff that. ive seen enough big bang theory and batman movies. i hooked up with a girl dressed as 'arwen' from LOTR and I haven't even seen those movies.

When is this comic con? I don't read comics, but I'm willing to start if the place is going to be full of girls like you.

I always liked the idea of a streetfighter 2 style computer game featuring all the various religious people. Jesus could be like Ryu, Vishnu would be a bit like Dhalsim. Bhudda would be like E.Honda. etc...
