Used, fun car, working with ~$15k budget by BigBrown20in cars
My 1999 Saab 9-5 is ready to kick the bucket (in fact, she keeps trying), and I'm currently looking at used sport sedans in the $15k region. I originally was looking at BMW or Audi, but after reading many maintenance stories, I started looking for something more reliable, but still fun. What's currently on my radar is a 2006/2007 Acura TL (or TL S) and Infiniti G35. Performance numbers are good (0-60 in under 6s, skidpad in the high .80Gs, slalom in the mid-high 60mph), reliability is great, and features and amenities are plentiful. Since you're looking for something good in the snow, the TL is FWD, and the G35 is available in AWD. And you can find many of these cars with 60-80k miles.

I haven't had luck with just a hot towel (at least when applied for under 3 minutes, which is my patience limit). I generally need to take a shower to soften the hair, before attempting an ATG shave.
Are you shaving WTG first?
I don't know anything about that razor, sorry. It could be that the blade angle is too aggressive. I just came across this story Wilkinson Razor which is pretty cheap, and the review says it's a mild razor.
I love feather blades, and they seem to work well for ATG shaving after a shower and using my Gillette Adjustable Slim. The Proraso also shouldn't be a problem.

Tips for recent ME grad? by liebherkin engineering
[–]lewie 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago
Orly? I got a job doing car stuff a bit over 60k without family/friend connections straight out of my second undergrad degree (MechEng). I got my internship because I had perfect writing samples (for tech documentation), so I opened that door myself. My current position isn't my dream job, but I still enjoy troubleshooting and driving cars.

Like iamawong said, six months being jobless is a different situation. The OP already put his work in, and still hasn't landed anything.
[–]lewie 9 points10 points11 points 4 months ago
You've been out of college for 6 months and you don't have a job - now is not the time to be picky. If someone hires you, you're taking the job. Period. The only way you're going to get into the exact line of work you want is either by a freaking miracle, or by getting a PhD in it. BSMEs straight out of college are pretty much scum (you're welcome). The fact that they want to pay you $60k+ a year is amazing. R&D, at least where I am (automotive) is reserved for advanced degrees. You can try, I would love to do that too, but don't hold your breath.
Side projects - it doesn't really matter, just make sure you have something to show for the last 6 months - either your life-guard/manager job, photography, programming, hobbies, etc. You can take free classes if you want, but I doubt they'll make much of an impression on employers, especially without that important piece of paper saying you've actually completed the course. Do it if you think you'll get something out of it.
I know I sound like some old, bitter person, but I'm <30 in my first engineering job. I've spent a few years wondering what I want to do, and wasting my time debating which specific area I want to get into. Don't waste your time. All you can do is develop a plan to get you to the doorstep. Once you're there, you don't have much of a choice who answers the door. But that first experience will help you out later, so even if you start out editing manuals (like I did), you'll see different jobs you might want to pursue. And when there's an opening, you'll be the first one at that door.
Anyway, priority #1 is networking. Ask family, friends, professors, neighbors if they know any working engineers. Hand or email that person a resume. Your school should have a career placement center, and you should still be able to use if even after you graduate, so put your resume out there, too. That's the second place companies go to find people; the first being those referred by current employees.
Good luck.

I have a BSME, and I'm working at my first job as a Powertrain Systems engineer, dealing with automotive sensors and systems.
Getting an engineering degree is step 1. Your interests, skills, and connections will take you the rest of the way to where you want to be. Granted you probably won't get to go deep into the Electrical field with a BSME, but something in the systems/algorithm logic/basic circuits realm wouldn't be too difficult. Once you get in you can always supplement your knowledge and move towards your goal (if it doesn't change by then).

Switching into engineering at 24 from a liberal arts background? by michellijpin engineering
[–]lewie 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago
I did the exact same thing. Started with Physics, then Mech Eng., then became distracted and disillusioned, and ended up with a Political Science degree. After spending a year looking for a job, and looking at all the wonderful Engineering jobs out there, I decided to go back.
When applying, they said having a Liberal Arts degree might hurt my chances of getting into the Engineering school, but the fact that I had so many math and science prereqs showed them I could handle the hardcore stuff.
I graduated with my second degree at the age of 28. I got an internship during my last year, and I got a full-time job there when I graduated. Being a bit older seemed to help me get a job. My internship boss wanted someone more serious and mature, which traditional sophomores and juniors generally aren't.
I was not even close to being the oldest person in my classes. There were many people in their 30s and 40s, many who were already working as engineers, and some who were blue-collars looking for a better career.
tl;dr: DO IT.

MEs can do ANYTHING! It's such a versatile degree, I think you have a shot.
If you can fit in any electives, look for Physics classes that deal with acoustics, or EE classes that deal with something like amplification.
Try for any internships that sound like something you like. But don't be disappointed if you can't find exactly what you're looking for; you're lucky if you can find one.
