Personally it should be 16 to drink. 18 to drive. Let them learn how drinking affects them before they're allowed to get behind the wheel.

Grocery bills may be higher, but this is only because they are eating at home more and spending less eating out. I'd like to see a $/calorie comparison.

The paleo diet is only hard to follow because it is fairly difficult to find many food choices when dining out. It is incredibly easy once a person gets used to preparing their own food.

Any diet where you can't eat out very often will be hard to follow.

You can deal with your obsessiveness on your own, but I will give you some advice on how you can help your wife lose some weight and be healthier overall.

Look into the Paleo Diet and google Mark's Daily Apple. The idea behind it all is that no one should be eating the food products that are in the middle of the grocery store and are produced by big companies who pretend to care about your health, while actually giving you cattle feed mixed with sugar. This will make lot's of people fat and give them heart attacks.

Read up on it and try it out. In short, you eat as much veggies, fruits, and meat as you feel like you want and cut out all processed food. It's incredibly easy once you get into it and is very good for you.

It will probably even help you gain weight too because you will finally not be malnourished anymore.

So start cooking. Start cooking real food. Do it for your health. If she wants to join, awesome. You'll both get healthy and in much better shape.

Focus on health, and the weight will follow. It's not good for anyone to eat junk food.

TL:DR: Meat, veggies, fruit!

Why not check out paleo? You don't have to be low carb on paleo by any means, you are just cutting out the poisonous grains and sugar.

What kind of interest rate do you have on your house?

You could always put 100k into the house and refinance it to a low rate on a 15 year mortgage, then aggressively pay it off over the next few years.

Start with diet first. I was in the same boat as you a few years back. I was 6' and 225 pounds. I just hit 182 the other day and am pretty happy with it.

Google the "paleo solution" and "marks daily apple". Read as much as you can and at least try it for 30 days straight.

It's not a fad or a fix all, but it will definitely make a huge difference.

Throwing it away on rent isn't all that bad. Being locked into a mortgage and throwing it away on interest is very frustrating. Especially when you can't sell without losing a load of money.

Don't buy till you know where you want to be for at least 10 years.

That's if you can get a 4% return somewhere and feel that this 4% is reliable. The 4% in interest is guaranteed, in the market somewhere it's not.

That and it depends on how you feel about being in debt. It can weigh pretty heavily on you.

Keep in mind that it will not be easy to just up and move when you get tired of it. You will have to list the house, sell it, and pay a lot of fees to get out. So don't plan on buying unless you can see yourself living there for the next 5-10 years.

Also, put as much down as possible. Paying interest is never fun, even if you can write it off.

Also, make sure you read all of the rules and regulations on the condo. You may not be able to even rent out your unit if you want to move.

This is coming from someone who bought a condo. Personally, if I were to do it over again, I'd keep renting or have bought a house because it would give me a lot more freedom than the condo does.

Not totally, but if there was more shopping downtown, people might go down there more. Now, just about everything is closed by 7pm.

Skyways are good and bad. I think they should either build more skyways to connect all of downtown or they need to get rid of them all. (which won't happen)

The bad thing about skyways is it turns downtown into a dead zone after the 8-5 business hours are over because nobody is in the skyway so all of those great little food places and other businesses shut down. This makes it so nobody will go downtown in the evenings and weekends.

They should either build more skyways connecting everything and keep more businesses open later or just get rid of them and see the city streets thrive.

Personally, I'd like to live close to the things I do most often. Since you work 5 days a week, that's probably your best bet. Do you see your family daily or just on weekends? It seems like it would more worth it to live close to work.

Stop watching TV and going on the internet past dark. Avoid all electronics after dark. You either need to be out doing something in the evening or go to bed by 9. This might get you out of a funk. Especially if you block internet and unplug the TV. You'll get bored sitting around the house and start going out more. How close are you to that whole beach front area with bars? Go there and just wander around. Sit at a mostly empty bar and read a book. I guarantee it'll start a conversation.
