are you doing much with your customers in the way of mobile?

Very, very little. I think we've done maybe 2 jobs involving cell phones/tablets in the 4ish years I've worked there (and they were friends of the boss). There is a cell phone repair shop in the next building over, so we usually direct people over there instead. My boss doesn't really want the liability of breaking someone's phone/tablet due to the stupidly thin cables or delicate construction or something.

It does seem like something that would keep you marketable, but you would probably want to do a bit of research on what other companies are charging so you don't over/under charge for your service.

but if you're anything like me, you'll drop something in your lap or hit your leg into a table or something. Gorilla glass shouldn't crack if it's against your leg unless you wail on the back of the phone hard enough to deform the case (in which case, you'd likely have bigger problems to worry about). What kind of phone did you have?

I gave the phone a pre-repair disassembly to get a feel for how it's built. It is a surprisingly easy phone to disassemble! Hardest part was removing the impossibly thin cables from the casing.

Look like the LCD is in perfect condition. Not a scratch or blemish anywhere. I also discovered there is a layer of plastic between the gorilla glass and the LCD, which kept the glass shard from contacting the LCD. Once I get the new glass, I'll just need to give the LCD a gentle wipe to get off the 1 fingerprint and reassemble and I'll be back in business :D

Thanks :)

I had my weather widget situated in such a way that it looked like Chell was sunbathing/enjoying the rain/looking at the clouds/whatever

I'm not sure how the rock would have hurt me. Although, if I had a hammer or something, I would have hurt it bad for what it did to my phone

Good advise. I will definitely look into that

That's pretty awesome. It probably has the added benefit that if someone breaks into your car/house/whatever, they might not realize it's actually a cell phone

Also, I bend down at the knees, so my torso is never upside down :)

Rub it in, why don't you :p

If you want ICS, which is pretty good on the atrix, yes. It does void the warranty, but mine was out of warranty anyway, so it didn't really matter to me. This is the only hardware issue I've had with my Atrix, so I guess I lucked out

Edit: I had updated to the latest version of cm9 a day or 2 before I broke it. The biggest issue I had with it was the camera was a tad flaky. Didn't really get a chance to test the newest build, though.

I can't think of anything I would go into a pit toilet to retrieve, no matter how valuable or sentimental

Sweet zombie jesus, that's a bad string of luck. Glad they RMAd the phone even though a few of them were your fault

I'm using my wife's old captivate for now. I am definitely gonna look into picking up a cheap screen protector for my Atrix. This thing is alot less responsive than what I am used to

I've had several cell phones over the years, this being my 3rd smart phone. Thus far, this is the first one I have actually broken. Guess I was a bit too overconfident. If my idiot customers have taught me anything it's that the only time you will ever learn anything is the hard way (coughback up your data oftencough)

pretty sturdy

It's quite sturdy IME. I once dropped it at work from about 4ft onto tile floor, it landed flat on the screen. No scratches, no cracks, no signs of any damage at all. Brushed the dust off and put it back in my pocket. No otterbox or screen protector or anything else like that either. Gorilla glass is pretty durable until you compress the force onto a small area (like hitting a rock)

I don't have much $$ to throw at it and it looks like I can get a new screen online for about $60+shipping. I think you might be able to do a bit better on /r/hardwareswap or /r/REDDITEXCHANGE, but I've got a ton of computer parts I would be willing to trade for it. PM me if you're interested
