TROPHY CASE

Going to concerts alone? by throw-away17in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lasdosrachels 1 point2 points ago

Going to concerts alone can be an amazing experience! Music is the obvious conversation-starter, so it can be ridiculously easy to meet new people who you already know have interests similar to yours.

The sketchy parts of town thing does give me pause. I did the same thing when I first moved to Philadelphia and some of my favorite shows were in the shadier areas. If you have a car, drive to the venue and try not to drink too much, or take a cab. If you get uncomfortable, you don't have to tell anyone you're there alone. A friend can always be "in the bathroom" or "at the bar." Good luck!

I have almost no outside eyebrows- does anyone know of a stain that can used to "make" brows? by buterbetterbaterin TwoXChromosomes

You need a super fine-tipped eyebrow pencil like this one. It allows you to draw on your eyebrows while creating the illusion of individual hairs so they're not overly obvious and clowny.

So has anyone here had an MRI done with contrast? I am really nervous about having one done tomorrow... by omgwtfbbqpandain TwoXChromosomes

[–]lasdosrachels 1 point2 points ago*

I've had an MRI done of my brain several times with contrast dye. Each time I've had an allergic reaction--facial swelling, difficulty breathing, and hives all over my body. I'm not allergic to ANYTHING else, and apparently being allergic to MRI dye is a rarity (it's not the same thing as the shellfish CT dye.)

The dye feels cold going in, but you shouldn't have the feeling like you're peeing yourself, that's just when the dye is for your gastrointestinal system. Even if you have a reaction like mine, they'll just pump you full of high doses of Benadryl and you'll get a little drunk for a bit, then sleep like a baby for a few hours. Actually kind of pleasant. :)

If you feel like you're going to be claustrophobic or anxious in the tunnel, you're allowed to have a loved one in the room to hold your hand for comfort. It's completely normal to be a bit nervous about this whole process, but know that you're going to be just fine!

For comparison (and lulz) here's swollen vs not swollen me. :)

What's your best "I've made a huge mistake" moment? Mine is happening right now. by MyofficialTACin AskReddit

I lived in Greenville, NC for years. Don't worry, happens all the time! My friend ran a venue in town and on more than a dozen occasions a band would call him frantically after having driven several hours past us to South Carolina.

[IIL] Tapes 'n Tapes, Dr. Dog and The Teeth [WEWIL]? by Phatferdin ifyoulikeblank

[–]lasdosrachels 1 point2 points ago

Dr. Dog often says that the Teeth are the best band to ever come out of Philly (they live right down the street from each other!) Bummer they're not together anymore, but you can check out the Teeth minus the lead singer in their new band Purples.

Walking upside down under the ice. mind = blown. by rikurrrin videos

You're vertical straight up and down when you descend for the most part--relying on the decreased buoyancy in your BC vest to make you sink. Of course you can also swim up and down while you're in the water, but you should never be completely upside down.

Oh well.

During recreational diving you're supposed to stay right-side-up or horizontal. You don't 'dive' down like you were skin diving. In my experience with regulators, I found it difficult to breathe while up-side-down. Oh well...

I thought respirators weren't designed to work upside down. Is there something unique to the ones used with dry suits vs wet?

Be sure to twist it once it's in there and keep the little holes clear to keep it from leaking. :)

I've honestly never had an issue with mine before--no leaks at all. This was definitely user error on my part. I'll never go back to using tampons again!

I've actually been using the Diva Cup for about 4 cycles now. So it's either sad that I haven't quite mastered the process yet, or fortunate that this was my first debacle. :)

I agree with Mameha. It's definitely no more gross than a tampon.

At least it's not tampon commercial blue. :)

Anyone else planning to run the Big Brothers/Big Sisters 5k that day? It finishes a bit before noon near the Art Museum. Maybe we could do both. :)

Definitely Swollen Fox. They list ALL concerts--from DIY venues to the Wells Fargo Center and everything in between. Also has separate posts for free concerts!

This was my favorite from a similar booth at a festival in my Southern home town. Subtle.
