If your exposure time is 30 seconds then any movement of the camera is going to reduce sharpness. You will need to use a remote fire for the camera. Even touching it when you click the shutter will move it a tiny bit. I think that is probably your problem. To test my theory open up as wide as you can and try to get your exposure time down to fractions of a second. a quarter of a second should be plenty fast enough. If it is sharper with a shorter exposure, you have solved your problem.

I saw a post a while back that was a bunch of reasons why the Alien movies are awesome because of who directed and wrote them. I think that ignited a spark in me to finally see them. But after that for the next couple weeks I kept seeing people on reddit mention the alien movies and I wondered if subconsciously we were all effected by the same post.
