Some years ago, this mad scientist called Schrödinger came up with a crazy experiment that involved putting a cat in a box with some poison and some other radioactive stuff that just maybe would trigger the poison at random and kill the cat. Schrödinger said that since you couldn't see if the cat was alive or dead, then you had to accept that it was both alive and dead.

His wife was very upset by all this, and so Schrödinger invented the Cat Scan machine so that Mrs Schrödinger could look into the box and see how the poor cat was doing. When he turned on the switch, he found out he could actually see inside the cat. Schrödinger soon realized how useful his new invention would be to doctors who would be very happy to see inside people without having to cut them open. He wanted to call it the Tiddles Scan in honor of his cat, but some stupid lawyers said the name 'Tiddles' was trademarked so he finally gave in to pressure and called it Cat Scan.
