Aussie backpacker going to dragoncon. Accommodation question by xargon3333in Atlanta

I stayed here one year. Great location. If you can't get one of the main hotels, this is walking distance, safe area, and close enough to the action where you won't feel left out.

Yep, I don't go to those places anymore, sounds like the OP doesn't anymore either. My point was more that it's not fair, and that it takes young people awhile to figure that kind of thing out.

So why do you keep going? and which is it?

A) When you're young you want to do what your friends are doing. And there are PLENTY of girls who don't mind this behavior. Either they find it self-validating or think they it's just the way the world is. *to clarify I meant you want to be out at the clubs with your friends. A lot of whom don't mind the behavior that skeeves you out.

B) Of course there are times when you go and this doesn't happen, but you typically have to be so bitchy/nasty that guys back off, or you have to sit on the sidelines and not get out on the dancefloor and enjoy yourself.

C) WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO STAY HOME. Period. End of story. This happens everywhere. Yes it's worse in clubs with short skirts and alcohol. But it happens on the bus, at the grocery store, everywhere. Cat calls and obscene gestures. You can't live your life in fear. Or at least, you shouldn't have to.

Maybe, but he got the city to fix the road outside my apartment complex. It was nasty! Very bad for the alignment. So I won't say anything bad about him.

I think you need to give yourself some more time. Explore the city a bit, settle in, start making friends.

If you still can't live without him move back! But remember that part of your misery right now could just be homesickness or a perfectly natural reaction to a huge change.

Staying for awhile doesn't have to mean staying always. You can go home again, but if this is your dream you owe it to yourself to give it a shot!

My SO almost got sent back to his country by Customs last time he tried to visit me in the States. What's the best answer for him to give to the question "Why are you here?" in order to not be denied entry? by poop-doh_factoryin answers

A bit stalkery yes, but it's ok. Yes I am a US citizen, however I have lived abroad so I have some basis for my opinion. I am sure you will say I have no basis for comparison, though personally I have found that IS citizenship gets you nowhere these days (we're not that popular)

I have found the only time I got hassled was when I was traveling with a visa. When I was traveling for pleasure a simple yes or no answer to Border Patrol's questions got me into whatever country I was seeking entry into.

Traveling on a visa however, I have been almost denied entry into several european countries. So, I stand by my option than someone traveling for pleasure sees less hassle from border patrol than someone seeking, or traveling on, a visa.

I disagree. I think you're giving border agents too much credit. Visas are not typically applied for at the airport at time of entry. Sure they check them there, but to assume the border agents who just check them are intelligent enough to assume someone in the country to visit an SO might be trying to apply for a green card is certainly giving them credit for more intelligence than I have witnessed.

She thinks her scars are beautiful... by [deleted]in relationship_advice

[–]ksalley -7 points-6 points ago

Depression becomes like a drug. You need it to have an identity. Picturing yourself without this thing that made you who you are is frightening. Her scars are likely a manifestation of this, a physical reminder that there's something special about her. My guess is it's that that's turning you off, not the scars themselves. You need to talk to her about the underlying issue.

Well good. Sounds like you have a lot to offer. You're observant, intelligent and I imagine people would miss you.

You're right about the hypocrisy, but don't underestimate the effect death can have on people. I'm sure most were hypocrites, but some could genuinely have feel guilt or at least remorse that they didn't do more. It's just a shame they figured it out after.

You just gotta accept it. Learn to love it! Take the opportunity to share your experience. I find a lot of these people just are genuinely happy for you. And the others are flat out jealous!

Do your friends make dieting difficult for you? awkward social situations by frankchesterin loseit_classic

[–]ksalley 1 point2 points ago

Wow. That just sucks.

You need to talk to your friends outside of these situations. When everyone's drinking it's a bad time to bring it up.

Call them one at a time. Explain that you love hanging out, but your will power only goes so far and they're making it harder for you by forcing things on you when you say no.

Either they'll understand because they want the best for you, or you'll figure out quickly who not to hang around anymore.
