TROPHY CASE

Senate proposes "Ex-Patriot Act" imposing a 30% tax on those who renounce citizenship by TheResPublicain TrueReddit

Delaware actually has a fairly average corporate tax rate 8.7% on income, but I think it's the legal situation that makes it advantageous to most corporations. Either that or a lot of loopholes.

HTC One X and Evo 4G LTE blocked at US Customs for Apple patent infringement by Kryptonianin apple

[–]krugerlive 1 point2 points ago

I switched to the One X from an iPhone4 2 weeks ago. It's been a great experience, but I have to say the lack of "data tapping" is frustrating. That's the whole joke, the feature definitely isn't in the phone. It makes me view Apple with more frustration as a result, and makes me wonder if the world has hit "peak-apple". Overall though, I don't really want to switch back from this phone. It's really nice and I've been pretty blown away by it. I can see why Apple doesn't want it on the market :)

I had this for iPhone and loved it. Can I bring my progress from the iPhone to my Android through any method? That would be awesome.

HTC One X available at AT&T today for $199; only $149 on Amazon! by jakeosmithin Android

I just picked mine up today. I was using an iPhone4 before this as well. It will take a little playing with to get used to but it's way more fun than iOS. At this point I know it well enough where I'd call it more useful too. One thing I definitely miss is the side lock button that toggles ring to vibrate on the iPhone. Other things that are weird are some of the typing things. I need to find a good keyboard. Overall though, I'm super impressed and very happy with the decision.

Dear Samsung: fire your entire marketing team. by aesamattkiin Android

That presentation was actually pretty good. It was the audience that was bad. If there were claps and awws that kid would have looked like a presentation superstar. She still put in the full effort in the face of audience silence. Kudos to that kid, that's not easy for people at any age. She probably would have presented the S3 much better than Samsung did.

Sensor size is what matters. My Nikon D700 is just a hair over 12MP and gets amazing photos because of its massively large full frame sensor. My phone doesn't need to take photos that large. A camera phone has a sensor many orders of magnitude smaller. Cramming more megapixels from the same size sensor actually reduces image quality. 8MP is fairly large and easily adequate for most people in terms of size (who prints 20x30s from a cell phone?). What would have been nice to see is a larger sensor with a 5-8MP camera. It would nice to have a super high quality camera on the phone, even if the photos are smaller.

I'm in the same boat as you. Thought I'd have a clear idea after the presentation today, but now I'm even less sure which phone to go with. If the HTC One X (AT&T) had more than 16GB on it, it'd be a no brainer. However, 16GB is just not really acceptable anymore when storage is so cheap. I would have paid an extra $50 easily for the added 16GB of the international model. AT&T really made a poor choice on the storage front (unless they expect us to all use dropbox and pay more in data rates).

Samsung likes numbers based marketing and will not approve any decision unless it has numbers and excel models showing it's a profitable decision. But most intelligent marketers who understand marketing in a connected world know that number based marketing decisions rarely attains the lead spot. By nature it's backwards looking and creates contrived presentations like the one we saw today. It's for companies that want to play it safe. Samsung signaled that they want to be the new powerhouse in mobile. If they're going to achieve that goal, they're going to have to understand how to take risks and make surprises.

Complete failure today for a company as capable as Samsung and considering how much hype was created. The phone isn't actually all that bad, it was just that the presentation made it so much worse sounding. Also, the excessive "designed for humans" crap felt so incredibly contrived. C-

It's both and it's based on the average client's willingness to pay, regardless of where that willingness originates.

Yesterday the Austin Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call. The officer pulled his gun on the homeowner, who was playing with his dog in the yard. When the dog started barking, the officer shot and killed it. Then he realized he was at the wrong address. by firesidechatin news

I believe this is a case where a lawsuit is rather justified. The PD should pay a significant amount to that victim in a settlement so taxes aren't wasted in courts. So admission of wrongdoing would be in the best interest of the dept here if it's going to act as a functioning member-entity of the community.

Well, the building doesn't have a dampener as I said, and if this fault line region was hit with anything above a 5.5 (not unreasonable), the building would be liable to collapse. Remember that the northeastern US earthquake this past August was a 5.8 and didn't do any major damage. Look a little bit deeper into your position.

Source on the dampener comment. I was relaying what my architect girlfriend told me about it. Don't let her know if I got subtle details wrong though, then she'll tell me I never listen to her.
