Woodworking programmer by dreddingin woodworking

[–]kiwi131 2 points3 points ago

I'm a web developer, but love to make "real" things every once in a while. I worked residential building for about 7 years framing and trimming houses. Two very different jobs, but really enjoy them both. It's nice to get out of the stuffy office and work with your hands sometimes.

I don't have any pics of the construction phase, but I'll try to fill you in. There was an existing covered slab before, with 4x4s supporting the roof and deck above. I just studded in walls between the 4x4s, framed as many windows as would fit, and presto!
I added a few images of the outside.

Birch!

Custom Fireplace by kiwi131in woodworking

It is birch with a red birch top, and poplar crown. The dimensions are about 11' long, 9' tall, and 3' deep. The material in the doors and behind the upper cabinets is old tin from the ceiling of the old building that used to be where the coffee shop is now. I will put some construction pics up as well.

The cost really wasnt that much, maybe $1500 ish. Most of the wood came from barns we helped our uncles tear down, and the other ramps we had at the time.

We spent about 5-6 months working on it after school and work. Started in the dead of winter building corners in a barn, then pulling them outside when done

Do you guys ride with Brakes, or without brakes by sedditrhitin bmx

[–]kiwi131 0 points1 point ago

ride whatever feels right to you. I ride brakes, even front ones too. Just the way I've always rode, and I like them. If you'd prefer to save a few ounces and have to jam your toe to stop, that's your call. Don't take them off just cause its hip or cool... do whatever feels better for you.
