This is a great idea. Anything to lower the bloat of the default page load.

Blender is open source and already has these features. Furthermore it gets used commercially as a NLE.

Then there is Lightworks and Nuke both which are cheaper and better than IFX products.

I think the point was that Go itself is open source licensed under the BSD license http://golang.org/LICENSE and has a patents clause https://code.google.com/p/go/source/browse/PATENTS whereas Microsoft's C# is not nearly that open.

I'm not sure if any of these are what you're looking for, though- are you looking for tools for students who are learning completely on their own, or for classroom use?

Classroom or independent use is fine. I think there is major cross over potential in both types of software. I am looking for a platform or piece of software that teaches coding that is more than just text tutorials or screencasts.
