Travel Photography: d800 or 5d mark iii? by enxenogenin photography

[–]kickstand 1 point2 points ago

FWIW, I take my 5DII on short (1-week or less) urban trips all the time. I don't know if I'd take it on an extended hiking trip, but it's certainly do-able for some.

Travel Photography: d800 or 5d mark iii? by enxenogenin photography

[–]kickstand 1 point2 points ago

Either is a great camera. To debate the difference is to split hairs.

Personally, I would consider a used Canon 5D Mark II, you'd save well over $1000 and get all the camera you'd really need. Spend the savings on the trip.

EDIT: I'd really consider a recent-model APS-C crop sensor camera body for an extended trip, if I didn't already own a Mark II.

Starting from scratch. Have any tips on getting started and what's a decent intro camera? by caffe_sospesoin photojournalism

TIL That initially Matthew Weiner, the creator of the show, initially had no intention of showing Don Draper’s home life, and Betty's character was invented as an afterthought. Can you imagine the show without Don's home life? by CooperDraperPrycein madmen

For me, the amount of Don's personal life in any episode is inversely proportional with my enjoyment of it.

Less Don's personal life = better episode for me.

Just as long as it's good. I don't care if it's faithful or not. Either way can be interesting.

I need a recommendation for a waterproof, GPS enabled, digital camera. by CallousJackin AskPhotography

[–]kickstand 0 points1 point ago

Used Panasonic TS1 or TS10? Waterproof, but doesn't have GPS, though. GPS is too new of a camera feature to be available for cheap on used cameras. I'm sure you can find a used GPS logger for cheap, though.

Off brand remote trigger for 5DMKII by IAteAllTheTwixin photography

[–]kickstand 0 points1 point ago

While you're shopping, why not pick up an Opteka wireless remote trigger for only $8. Heck, pick up one for each camera bag, and a spare or two.

Expose to the right. Use high ISO. Shoot wide open. Consider converting your images to black and white.

Question About Time Lapse Photography? by AmateurPhotographerin photography

[–]kickstand 0 points1 point ago

The tricky part is the "time-lapse function on your camera". Most cameras don't have one.

Why do P&S cameras make very blurred photos in good light giving their short focal length? by susanuin photography

P&S images should not blur in good light. Maybe your hand shakes?

Used Canon 20D or 30D. (don't confuse 30D with D30, they are not the same. The D30 is older. It will do the job, but it's not as good as the 30D).

Do you use "back button focus". What are the pro's and con's of using it. by photoknutin photography

[–]kickstand 4 points5 points ago

Back-button autofocus is like having manual focus when you need it, and autofocus when you need that. Try it for a solid two weeks. Once you get used to it, you'll never go back.

For what it's worth, I was listening to the "Breaking Bad" podcast, and almost every minor character's name is a reference to some movie character or real life person. It's just what writers do.
