I'd learn at least one other different weapon. If you only stick with a single weapon class, then you're just making some battles much harder than they need to be. For example, I normally use a longsword, but on some enemies, like plesioth and kirin, I use my heavy bowgun, because I'm lazy and those enemies are a breeze to shoot at. :-) It's also fun to see what the different weapons are capable of, like using the hammer to stagger enemies after multiple head bashes, slicing off tails with blades, or shooting off horns and shit. Go to the training school and dick around with the various weapon sets. Just some more food for thought...
