Udonis Haslem suspended for Game 6 by pepito420in nba

[–]kamikazewave -2 points-1 points ago

Everyone was full of shit. There's no way it was a basketball play. Just because you touched the ball before clobbering someone with your right arm after you already hit them with your left doesn't make it a basketball play.

Heat haters just blind as can be.

Beauty in simplicity and (the pursuit of) truth - a guide to basic critical thinking by TuneRaiderin pics

[–]kamikazewave 5 points6 points ago

A great example of this is given in the fantastic Harry Potter fanfiction, the Methods of Rationality.

Example begins below

"Now the way this game works," said the boy, "is that you give me a triplet of three numbers, and I'll tell you 'Yes' if the three numbers are an instance of the rule, and 'No' if they're not. I am Nature, the rule is one of my laws, and you are investigating me. You already know that 2-4-6 gets a 'Yes'. When you've performed all the further experimental tests you want - asked me as many triplets as you feel necessary - you stop and guess the rule, and then you can unfold the sheet of paper and see how you did. Do you understand the game?"

"Of course I do," said Hermione.

"Go."

"4-6-8" said Hermione.

"Yes," said the boy.

"10-12-14", said Hermione.

"Yes," said the boy.

Hermione tried to cast her mind a little further afield, since it seemed like she'd already done all the testing she needed, and yet it couldn't be that easy, could it?

"1-3-5."

"Yes."

"Minus 3, minus 1, positive 1."

"Yes."

Hermione couldn't think of anything else to do. "The rule is that the numbers have to increase by two each time."

"Now suppose I tell you," said the boy, "that this test is harder than it looks, and that only 20% of grownups get it right."

Hermione frowned. What had she missed? Then, suddenly, she thought of a test she still needed to do.

"2-5-8!" she said triumphantly.

"Yes."

"10-20-30!"

"Yes."

"The real answer is that the numbers have to go up by the same amount each time. It doesn't have to be 2."

"Very well," said the boy, "take the paper out and see how you did."

Hermione took the paper out of her pocket and unfolded it.

Three real numbers in increasing order, lowest to highest.

I hate that place. Some tourist groups require you to use that stupid rail, and it takes longer waiting in line than to simply walk up the damn wall.

This is beyond retarded. The government that issued that debt still exists and held the UN security seat for decades after they issued the debt.

Also, successive governments are not usually "bound" to take on the debts of the former government.

What is the one thing you want to see become reality before you die? by Battle4Seattlein AskReddit

I wanna go to space and die when my ship gets blown up as I'm hijacking a cargo ship carrying iridium from the asteroid belt to the moon processing station.

I die with a fortune in stable einsteinium hidden inside a small maintenance compartment in the old space elevator.

How do I get my lazy-ass son to pull away from Reddit and get a frickin job? by DadOfARedditorin AskReddit

[–]kamikazewave 1 point2 points ago

If what you've described is true your son should easily be able to land a decent job. 50k for even a barely capable programmer is still cheap. Most of the tech companies I'm aware of (including the one I'm working for) are actively recruiting talent. They especially love the kids who've contributed to open source projects because it's a pretty good indicator that the new hire can perform.

Of course, this is all in California.

Work Is Work: Why Free Internships Are Immoral by ElBehin TrueReddit

[–]kamikazewave 33 points34 points ago

AFAICT, internships are all about giving young people the opportunity to get at least some of that first year of experience, before they actually start to work

This is ridiculous. Let's first set something straight here. Unpaid internships are illegal. If the intern is providing any benefit at all to the company, it is illegal under federal law. Any non shitty company will offer paid internships, or treat an unpaid internship as essentially 3 months of finishing school.

Most of the unpaid internships being offered are just a way for employers to steal some basic level work out of college grads who didn't career plan very well.

and then they are /guaranteed/ to leave before they start to actually be useful?

If your company isn't shit you shouldn't have all your interns flocking away.

I read crap like this all the time from employers who wonder where to get quality interns who can actually contribute. If you want quality you gotta pay for it. You're not getting anyone except the most desperate with unpaid internships.

Can you sense it? - As the playoffs roll on, the Heat are going to lose Wade and have a hobbled Bosh... it's going to be all on Lebron in the finals by swishcheesein nba

[–]kamikazewave 2 points3 points ago

Unfortunately for you, I believe Bosh had a large muscle injury, which means it should heal fairly quickly.

Furthermore, Wade was fully rested before the playoffs started, so he should be fine as well.

It's complete horseshit. Unless youth culture changed considerably in the last decade, most kids haven't formed their own opinions yet to be "atheists" and reject society's conformity with Christianity.

Furthermore, his title is full of shit. "Reddit hates me for existing." No you dumb shit, I hate you cuz you're a troll.

Chomsky: “Jobs aren’t coming back because American no longer makes anything...” by ResidentGingerin TrueReddit

[–]kamikazewave 2 points3 points ago

When did I ever say anything about my lack of opportunity, or my sad outlook? I work in R&D. I'm the stereotypical Silicon Valley startup guy. But first, how is that even related to what we're discussing, which is the linked article, that you just admitted to not reading?

Your point was that Silicon Valley is a tech hub. I pointed out that it's an R&D center. R&D by its nature doesn't employ a large percentage of the workforce, and would be out of reach for most Americans. Congrats on landing a nice job, but the jobs that are in high demand in California, R&D jobs, require educational backgrounds that most Americans do not have.

It's obvious you either don't read or have poor reading comprehension skills. You also have little understanding of the issue at hand yet feel free to completely disregard other people's points without understanding them first.

Chomsky: “Jobs aren’t coming back because American no longer makes anything...” by ResidentGingerin TrueReddit

[–]kamikazewave 5 points6 points ago

Silicon Valley is a tech hub. It's mostly used for R&D. Manufacturing, which forms the majority of the "production" jobs that "won't come back" that Chomsky is talking about in his article, isn't located in Silicon Valley.

Next time. Read the article before writing something like "what does manufacturing have to do with anything." It's only what the article in question and all the comments on that article are discussing.

The jobs offered there are out of reach of most Americans. Also, manufacturing is still outsourced.

The guy has his feet facing the opponent player. His right foot is positioned in parallel with the backboard. His left foot is directly behind his right.

His upper body (and face and eyes) on the other hand, is contorted away from the basket, the opponent player, and the ball.

It's not his fault. It's obviously a middle school team. But there is absolutely no way he was trying to take a charge with that right foot placement and his contorted body.

China Expels Al Jazeera's news operations by tomcarterin worldnews

[–]kamikazewave 0 points1 point ago

Le Sweden doesn't even make sense, since 'le' is most commonly associated in American culture with the French, what the hell does socialist healthcare even mean, religion is a far and overarching term that encompasses many things, and I don't really give a shit about circumcision except I like the way my circumcised penis looks.

TL;DR: Fuck you. Sarcasm is the refuge of the weak, especially when misapplied and poorly used.

China Expels Al Jazeera's news operations by tomcarterin worldnews

[–]kamikazewave 86 points87 points ago

It's hilarious to me how Al Jazeera has undergone so much shit in the West as a terrorist sympathizing news channel and now when China kicks them out they're a beacon of independent journalism.

It's pathetic. The New York Times has itself ragged on Al Jazeera in the past and implied that its journalistic merits were in question.

Note, I'm a big fan of Al Jazeera News. Hell, almost every sort of news meant for an international audience is better than the crap we get in the US. It's despicable how obvious the editorial bias is in US marketed news. It's like watching an NBA game with local commentators. Annoying as hell.

I apologize as my rant isn't really related to the article in question. I just hate seeing these about faces by news organizations.

Whats the scariest situation you've ever been in? by Butterscotched_Ballsin AskReddit

[–]kamikazewave 2 points3 points ago

This story might be weak compared to everything else here, but it was the closest I ever felt to "I'm going to die."

I went to a medical marijuana dispensary, and I asked for something to relax. Dude behind the counter recommended this hybrid strain called "VIP OZ" or some crap. I can't make out exactly what the prescription bottle says.

One day, before I went to sleep I decided to use my vaporizer and partook in some of it. I wasn't being very careful, and before I knew it I was completely messed up. I first felt I had to puke, but then when I tried to get up I found I had a horrible time simply staying up. Then, my heart seemed to beat at an insane rate, like I was running consecutive 100 meter sprints. I was terrified, and was deciding whether or not to call 911 and tell them "I smoked too much weed."

The whole time my heart felt it was about to burst. To this day, I don't know if it was actually my heart beating or just the AC or ventilation.

I honestly felt I was about to have a heart attack, and afterwards finally signed up with a gym. Now, I always make sure to limit my intake. No more medicating while watching Chappelle on Netflix.

When I Still Have Time Left in an Exam, But I Have Nothing Left to Say by notayyynogggin funny

I remember once in college I had 3 hours to finish a math exam and I ran out of things to write in 45 minutes. I looked around and everyone was still working furiously.

I knew then I'd failed the final and just hoped for a pity pass. Lucky for me I'd done well on the midterm and the prof felt pity for me.
