An invitation to help mod/edit r/inception...

junkmale [S] 0 points1 point 9 hours ago[-]

Thanks, I just threw it together in 5 minutes using the official site and MS Paint, but I think it's too big and I'd like to see the whole header/style to change and look more like r/ps3 or something. Also, I'd like to setup tags for users like they had in r/LOST. I have the feeling we'll be discussing this movie for some time.

An 'entertainment attorney' really isn't that random in H-wood.

Dave Eggers is the man

junkmale 1 point2 points 3 days ago[-]

Eggers's sister, Beth, claimed that Eggers grossly understated her role in raising Toph and made use of her journals without compensation in writing A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.[6] She later recanted her claims in a posting on her brother's own website McSweeney's Internet Tendency, referring to the incident as "a really terrible LaToya Jackson moment".[7] On March 1, 2002, the New York Post reported that Beth, then a lawyer in Modesto, California, had committed suicide.[8] Eggers briefly spoke about his sister's death during a 2002 fan interview for McSweeney's. [9]

I like his books, but, shit, I'd hate to be related to him, though. Also, I tried contacting them about opening a learning center in my hometown and they basically gave me the finger. I think he capitalizes on what he can and then moves on. But I've never been in that position, so who am I to judge?

USA plotting Bruce Campbell-centric Burn Notice prequel movie

I think they're in that lull of 'are we going to get a 5th season?' (aka syndication) and are we going to be able to wrap things up like we like? LOST had the same problem. Hopefully USA will tell Nix what their plan is, so he can make his and wrap it all up nicely.

It seems like a lot of the TV networks are starting to come around a little bit and learn from their late 90's-mid 00's mistakes and actually make good TV again. About freakin' time.

Reddit, how many of you are in your mid-20s and have absolutely no idea what you want to do in life?

Ah, the post I was hoping for. Bookmarked just for this. It's fine to unload, but getting a positive response is the best medicine. Better than a mirror anyway...

It really is an out-of-the-way tourist trap. The concept is neat, but there are so many other great things to see in the UK.

Hey Reddit, Is there anywhere in the U.S. where I can just build a cabin and live there without anyone bothering me?

I just licked raw chicken marinade off my hand while grilling without realizing how retarded that is. Am I going to get Salmonella and die?

junkmale 0 points1 point 11 days ago[-]

Yeah, I ate a plate of semi-cooked chicken fingers and upon realising my mistake, I downed several vodka cocktails. If anything was festering in my belly, that fine Russian swill killed it quickly and I live to comment on Reddit to this day.

Listen to this man. Plus, the buzz will calm you down and be quite enjoyable.

How do you cook a steak?

junkmale 1 point2 points 11 days ago[-]

Well, when I said, "Off the top of my head," I meant nearby. I just did a google search and there are over 300 total in my city. Also, if you do a little Google search the results show that there are tons of butcher shops in San Jose.

Again, I wouldn't consider it 'specialty' over here any more than in Ireland/UK. Like I said, there is a range everywhere.

And I don't get your point about Mad Cow. Why test for something that doesn't exist anyway? I don't go to the doctor every year to get tested for Malaria, because we don't have malaria in the states.

I live in a city of around 1 million people and off the top of my head, I can think of three independent, specialty butchers that only have the highest grade of meat (no hormones, grass fed and beyond). I don't know about mad cow, but as far as I know, it has never really affected America like it did the UK. Personally, I'm not worried. Also, within a mile of my house, there are three organic grocery stores that also sell this type of beef. I can also get it through mail-order (which I have done) and you get the highest quality overnighted to you and it's really not too expensive.

There is definitely a range of quality and price, but I from what I remember of England- it was the same situation. I was a poor student and bought my meat at Tescos and it was about the same quality as what you'd get here in the states.

I also have a great grilled chicken and pork tenderloin recipe, if you're wanting to branch out on the meats.

How do you cook a steak?

junkmale 2 points3 points 11 days ago[-]

Ok-

3/4 teaspoon ginger

2/3 cup unsweetened pineapple juice

1/3 cup soy sauce

1/3 cup red wine

1 clove garlic, minced

1 (3 lb) Tenderloin (from a good butcher), cut into 6 filets

Serves 6

Prep 5 mins

Marinate 24 hrs

Broiling 6-10 mins

Mix ginger, pineapple juice, soy sauce, red wine, and garlic in a large bowl. Add meat and marinate in fridge for 24 hrs. Broil or grill about 4 inches from (high) heat for 3 mins per side or until desired done-ness.

I tweak this a bit based on the cut of meat, source of heat, etc... But, again, this is a unique take on making a great steak besides the simpler methods.

Most of the responses on here are simple grilling recipes (purity and all that), which is cool, but I have a unique recipe that compliments the steak flavor without destroying it and everyone I've cooked for has told me it is the best steak they've ever had- better than anything they've had in any restaurant/steakhouse. If you want, I'll go look up the specifics, but the minimalist approach is a favorite of mine, too.

You can get just as good beef in the US, you just have to look for it. It's the same as not getting it at Tescos as not getting it at Wal-Mart here.

It also helps it cook more evenly- not a lot of oil is needed, but it does help.

So I decided to watch "Breaking Bad" this weekend. I finished watching all the aired episodes, all 3 seasons. I am absolutely stunned. This is the best television show I've ever seen. It feels like I'm watching a really long movie. If you haven't seen Breaking Bad, what the hell are you waiting for?

junkmale 3 points4 points 11 days ago[-]

Fair enough, but the story was more important to me than the special effects/presentation... heck even some of the acting faltered here an there. But really, it captured current American society better than anything else and the themes really spoke to the human condition at its core better than anything I've ever seen on TV/film.
