Question about parking tickets by littlelostpenguinin unt
[–]jondotg 0 points1 point2 points 24 days ago
They can't send it to your student account anymore, but they will charge a $25 (I think) late fee, but only once. Now, if they ticket goes to a collection agency, then they will add their own fees which may add up to more than the original ticket.
This is a rumor. You don't get any "free" tickets. You may have been lucky and had a couple voided, but there is no rule that says they have to give you any for free.
They are no longer allowed to charge your student account. After a certain amount of time, the ticket is sent to a collection agency. They can usually charge you fees for the collection that amount to double what you would have paid to the university.
male hair stylists/barber shops by necromanteionin unt

I have been to the barber shop that used to be on Fry St, and it has now moved. Every time I went there, the guy was so busy talking to everyone else in the store that he cut my hair lopsided. The right or left side was always noticably longer than the other side. This happened the first time and I had to get it fixed somewhere else. I gave them another chance and it happened again, so I haven't been back.
If you don't mind paying for an actual stylist ($30-$50), go to Aveda Salon over by Best Buy and Old Navy. The stylist, Angela, does a fantastic job and is very nice.

Don't bother. After the last 2 seasons, I wouldn't wear anything other than the big 'T'
My fiancee told me to do that. The outer skin is really tough and not very tasty compared to the inside, so she would peel it. She just used a regular potato peeler. You only have to do that on the really thick ones, though. The smaller stalks are just fine without peeling.

This is a common scam.
NEVER leave your door unlocked. Even when you're at home or just going down to your car to grab something. Thieves only need a couple seconds.
ALWAYS call the police if this happens. If someone walks into your unlocked door, make them leave and call the police.

Frustrated with UNT police thread by manalishiin unt

I agree, sometime cops have just heard so many excuses that day from people that got deserved tickets that they get jaded. It's sad, but everyone has an excuse. I'm not saying yours isn't a valid reason, but I imagine that it is hard to determine that when everyone has (what they think) is a valid reason they should not get a ticket. I wish he had taken a bit more time, but at least the courthouse can verify and bring down the fine. Not an ideal situation, but better than paying (Same thing happened to me a few years ago).
Yeah, he wouldn't leave his camera on at the stop sign. Once he pulled you over, though, I believe it is their policy to video record each stop.
I would recommend not fighting the ticket unless there is some kind of program that lets you do a class or probation instead of paying. I always just paid my tickets, but I know I couldn't afford that this year. Ask the court if you can be put on a payment plan (they don't care about you, just your money).
UNT needs police because a college campus presents a very specific set of circumstances for police. They need to be trained for the situations that can arise from such a concentrated area. There are hazardous materials, research projects, underage students, dormitories, and many other things that city police rarely have to deal with. Also, the university is owned by the State of Texas. That means the police are state employees, not city employees. I'm sure it would complicate things if the City of Denton tried to police the school too. By having officers just for campus, they have the manpower to walk through all the buildings, drive through parking lots, work special events, etc. that a city would not have enough people to do. (Actually, many of the police working UNT's special events are employees of other area police departments that come in just to work those events.)
In addition, parking is mostly made of student employees. They cannot handle many of the situations at special events. They are not allowed to direct traffic because they are not insured like police officers (and don't have the authority to stop people). They cannot be in the street directing traffic. Plus, they are not trained to manage traffic and deal with possible evacuations.
I agree that Denton police could respond to 911 calls on campus, and they regularly do. They just simply do not have enough employees and the university would have no official oversight over them. With its own accredited police department, the university can have control over its resources and make sure the buildings get patrolled as well as the streets.
The only reason that the UNT police do not get any of the money from the tickets is because the city owns the streets (and maintains them, keeping the costs of maintenance off of the university) and they can avoid complicated situations like, "who gets the money from this ticket?" by simply agreeing that parking will be handled by UNT and traffic by the city.
I hope this all helps.

Oh yeah, I meant to also say thank you for writing a real reply. Too often threads about police end up being flame wars about how getting a ticket is "bullshit, man!" I believe you have a valid complaint: How does a normal person know (and defend his belief that) a ticket was unjustified.
[–]jondotg -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
Well I am sorry that the police in Denton accused you of that when you were robbed. That sounds like the City of Denton police, who are a completely different department and have nothing to do with the UNT police.
The UNT police receive most of their funding from the Parking department. They do not get any money from the traffic tickets they issue because there is an agreement with the City that since the streets belong to the City and the other property on campus belongs to the State, the City will keep all revenue from traffic tickets. They give citations because it is something that keeps the streets safer. They have no vested interested in writing tickets.
If you truly did stop, then I am sorry. That is a really shitty situation. I'm not saying that police don't make mistakes. They all do, just like me and you. If you really think you stopped completely, then talk to the officer.
Yes, the police can check your insurance online. They can also check to see if you have a valid DL, but you will still get a ticket for not carrying it while driving. You must have these things so that if you are in an accident or another situation where this information is needed, you will be able to provide it. You are required to have insurance to drive a vehicle in Texas. That means the police must verify this information. If an officer's computer is not working, what other way can he check this? Just like your DL; you MUST have it any time you are driving. Same as insurance.
The argument about them taking the students' financial concerns into account is moot. Both the poor and rich must follow the laws. I agree that being in college can put a drain on your finances, and getting a ticket will most likely affect you for months (it has happened to all of us). That being said, you are no more exempt from tickets as someone who is not a student. The second that the police stop giving students tickets on the assumption that they are all poor is when others start to cry "corruption!" Do you think that others deserve special treatment too? Or is it just you? Students are no different than, say, someone who is unemployed. They are also poor, but if they run a stop sign (I'm not saying you did), they will get a ticket. No one is exempt.
Again, if you believe that you do not deserve the tickets you received, make a public records request and view the video of your stop. Most likely there won't be a video of you at the stop sign since they don't leave the cameras running all the time (I think). You can also make a complaint. Every department is required to fully investigate all complaints.
Also, if you were robbed and then accused of selling drugs, I would definitely file a complaint. That sounds wrong.
It's this lack of general sensibility/kindness and care for the citizens they interact with that leads to people saying fuck da police. It's their own damn fault.
This is a very subjective comment. I have met asshole cops. I have also met nice cops. Just like there are assholes and nice people where you work. The trait of "asshole" is not exclusive to police.
We are all in college here, I hope we don't resort to idiocy like this in the future. Police are not evil. Some people are evil, but the profession of policework is not inherently evil.
I just read this at the request of my LCBS owner. I liked it. The idea of Superman knowing he will die is very interesting.
The one thing I really didn't get was this page. Everyone makes a big deal about it, but I just don't get it. To me, that's just Superman doing the thing the does best: saving people. I wouldn't have expected him to do anything else.
UNT police receives NO money from issuing tickets. All that money goes to the City of Denton, who in no way funds the UNT police.
If your wheels did not completely (I mean 0.00 mph) stop, then you "ran" the stop sign. The names of the tickets are standard, not a jab at your driving skills. If you think you did stop, ask to see the video. It is public record. I hope you are right.
If you did not hand over your valid insurance, it was a mistake. Not his mistake, but that is why it is only $20 instead of the actual fine. The City of Denton sets that fee BTW, not the police.
It sucks that you got a ticket, but remember, the UNT are actual police, not campus security. They are not out to screw students, but since the square mile of campus is like 99% students, they are statistically most likely to be pulled over. No one is out to get you.
And to everyone screaming Fuck Da Police: remember that when your car is stolen or your apartment is broken into. They issue tickets because (believe it or not) it keeps the roads safer. By knowing you could get pulled over, you are less likely to break the traffic laws (which keep everyone, especially pedestrians in a walk able area like UNT, same from vehicles).
I have had the occasional asshole cop, but there are assholes everywhere. I also get that asshole at Subway who gets pissed because I want tomatoes on my sandwich. Don't let this fuel the "police are all evil, corrupt fucks who are only in it for the money" rant. When was the last time someone with a family could afford to feed them by volunteering to police the neighborhood because they "want to keep people safe." People work to get paid, that's how society works.
Do you follow characters, authors, artists, publishers, or what when choosing comics? by preacher37in comicbooks
I just recently got into comics, so I don't know of many writers or artists. I follow almost all of the X-titles. There is just too much nostalgia there. I also have come to love Spidey and Deadpool. I don't know much about DC before the New 52 since I only ever read X-Men as a kid, but there are a few titles I really enjoy. Aside from the Justice League characters, my favorites are Blue Beetle, Resurrection Man, and Grifter. I usually don't care about writers, but I read that they are taking the guy in charge of a few titles that got canceled and putting him on Grifter. That worries me because I don't want it to get canceled too.
Also, I just started Y:The Last Man and Saga and realized I really like Brian K Vaughan. He is probably the only writer I know by name.
Wow, #2 was amazing! by Meta-tronin comicbooks
I went into my LCBS yesterday just to browse and I saw issue #1 sitting on the shelf with a sticker on the bag that said $10. I was wondering if this was a variant or something, so I asked and the owner said no... it was just really popular, so the first print is worth more now and that was his last copy.
I was so happy! I picked up Saga #1 because I liked the cover and ended up loving both issues, and now my #1 has (according to him, so I take it with a grain of salt) tripled in value. How cool! (Not that I would ever want to sell it)

In addition to his review of the AR app: I was thoroughly disappointed in the low quality of the videos being played. I got all the pages to work (eventually), but there was text in some of them and it was definitely unreadable. I love the idea of this. When I opened the video on the large panel of the Phoenix in flight, I was hoping it would animate the Phoenix flying and add some screeching sounds instead of just the progression of the artwork. I would love it if this added some more imagery and sound to those panels that have no dialogue.
I really liked this issue since it is my first big event since I got into comics, so I hope it doesn't disappoint.
